Muriel Olive Yost (nee White)
Aug. 9, 1927 — Aug. 10th, 2018
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Muriel Olive Yost, beloved wife and best friend of the late Nickolas Yost. Predeceased by her parents Russell M. White and Myrtle E. (nee Benedict) and by her brother Milford B. White. She is sadly missed by her twin sister Marian Mingham and sisters Hazel Harry, Evelyn White and brother William White. She will also be missed by her many nephews, nieces and great nephews and nieces. She will also be missed by her very dear community of friends in Carleton Place, where she had lived in her home for nearly a half century.
She had also lived briefly in Toronto and Ottawa. Muriel was born in Port Hope and grew up on a farm west of Elizabethville in Hope Township. Following graduation from Port Hope High School, she became an occupational therapist. She served with the Red Cross in Japan during the Korean War (1950 – 1953) under the direction of the Canadian Army. She was recognized for her service in this capacity. Muriel was a lifelong and active member of the Canadian Legion and participated in the activities of the Carleton Place Legion Branch and where she had many friends. Soon after returning from Japan, wanderlust struck and she travelled to England to live for a while. Her twin sister Marian came to visit her in England and then stayed to live there permanently, while Muriel returned home to Canada.
Muriel was an artisan who specialized in stained glass, painting, crafts and was passionate about gardening. The intricate stained glass works that Muriel and Nick built into their home made it beautiful and special. Muriel very much enjoyed Tai Chi and going to the local gym. She was a philanthropist and over the years has faithfully supported many causes, charities and organizations which supported her beliefs. She loved the theatre and was a supporter at both the local level and at the National level in Ottawa.
The twin sisters Muriel and Marian were re-united in Carleton Place for their 91st Birthday on August 9th, 2018. The following day, Muriel passed on.
According to her wishes, Muriel has been cremated and there is no visitation or service.
Muriel valued her privacy and truly believed in her own distinct philosophy of life.
