Obituary of Muriel « Irene » Cribbs
It is with sadness and some comfort that we announce that Muriel “Irene” Cribbs has peacefully left this world after suffering from Alzheimer’s disease for the past 8 years. ‘Our memories of who you were and what you meant to each of us are strong and everlasting.’ She was born in Mazenod, Saskatchewan on November 27, 1932 and passed away on Wednesday, July 25, 2018 in Regina. Irene spent her childhood years on a farm near Killarney, Manitoba. Following high school, she moved to Winnipeg to pursue her dream of becoming a Nurse. As an RN she worked at the Grace Hospital, St Boniface Hospital, Shriner’s Hospital for Children in Winnipeg, and later at the Wascana Rehabilitation Centre in Regina. She met the love of her life Don Cribbs on a blind date while in nursing school and they spent the next 58 years together. They shared their love and lives with family and friends, enjoying all that it had to offer. Their love is eternal and now they are reunited in happiness. Irene was predeceased by her parents, Annie and Jim Floyd; husband Charles Donald Cribbs; their son Todd Floyd Cribbs; as well as her three sisters, Peggy, Betty, and Sheila. She is survived by son Bruce (Linda) and daughter Nancy-Anne (Don), and daughter-in-law Lorraine (Todd). Nana (as she was affectionately called) was blessed with nine grandchildren, that she absolutely adored and spent every opportunity enjoying them. Missing her always are Katie Cribbs, Allison Cribbs (Dan, Penelope and Ruby), Craig Hill (Kayla), Stephanie Bockstael (Nick, Stella and Harvey), Adrianne Hill (Josh and Fletcher), Derek and Dylan Harrison, and Christopher and Corisa Cribbs. We know she would have loved to share her imagination and joy with her five great-grandchildren. Whether through nursing, volunteering, or as a Mom and homemaker, Irene spent much of her time caring for others. As a legacy to her devotion for volunteer work, she was honoured by the City of Regina, which named a street Cribbs Bay in recognition of her contributions. Irene was a member of St. Luke’s Anglican Church Auxiliary, I.O.D.E., the Shrine Ladies’ Auxiliary, YWCA Women’s Shelter, and many other benevolent endeavors. Irene was a talented artist and member of the Brushworks Art Guild for many years. She enjoyed sewing (most especially costumes) and had the best ‘tickle trunk’ for playing dress up with her grandkids. Irene had such imagination and creativity. She loved to entertain friends and family at home and at their cottage at Laclu, near Kenora, Ontario. Irene spent many memorable summers playing in the enchanted forest with her grandkids and watching their numerous talent nights. Through all their shared activities, Irene and Don had many lifelong friends. She lived to laugh and play with her friends and family and her life was full of joy in knowing all of them. Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 15, 11:00 a.m. at St. Luke’s Anglican Church, 3233 Argyle Road, Regina. Special thanks to all who provided Irene with care during her lengthy stay at Regina Pioneer Village. Friends so wishing may make donations, in memoriam, to the Shriners Hospitals for Children – Canada, 1529 Cedar Avenue, Montreal, QC, H3G 1A6 or to the Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan, 301-2550 12th Avenue, Regina, SK S4P 3X1.
