Obituary for Moya Taylor
TAYLOR: With great sadness the family announce the passing of Moya Taylor at the Assiniboine Hospital on April 6, 2018. Moya was predeceased by her parents, Charles and Esme Tribe and her brother Anthony Tribe. Left to mourn are her beloved husband Michael, her children Jacqueline (Doug Flaherty), David (Leah) , Louise and Rachel, her grandchildren Robin and April (Jimmy) and younger brother Julian (Miriam). Moya was born in Guildford, England June 6, 1937. She had her schooling in Oxford. At the age of 17 she left home to train, firstly, as an orthopaedic nurse at The Nuffield Hospital in Oxford and then took her RN training at King’s College Hospital London. In 1960 she married Michael and they settled in the area of Portsmouth on the south coast of England. In 1972 the family moved to Brandon when Michael took an appointment with the Western Medical Clinic. As the children grew up Moya resumed her nursing career and worked in the Intensive Care Unit at the Brandon Regional Health Center for 20 years. This work lead to many firm friendships and she was an enthusiastic member of an informal luncheon group called RIBs (Retired ICU Babes). Moya also devised and co-developed a hands-on educational program for grade 4 students called “The Heart and Healthy Lifestyles”. She was delighted with the feedback from the kids. She was a persistent volunteer and contributed to many events such as The Canada Games of 1997 and countless regattas at Ninette. This in spite of her hatred of sailing. Moya also maintained long distance relationships with several of the nurses she trained with in England and enjoyed many reunions with them. Whilst working in the ICU she became the secretary of the Canadian Council of Cardiovascular Nurses. This work took her to many cities in Canada. After retirement she retraced many of these travel steps pursuing her interest in figure skating. She attended numerous National, Grand Prix, European and World Championships and this lead to the formation of yet another group of firm friends across Canada and beyond. Her other passion was wildlife, particularly ornithology and she visited many countries armed with binoculars. However her most rewarding bird watching took place at the family cottage on Pelican Lake, Ninette. Throughout her 17 year history of breast cancer she received excellent care and the family would like to thank, in particular, Dr. Johan Du Plooy and Dr. Joanne Maier. A celebration of her life will take place at the Brockie Donovan Chapel, 332-8th Street, on Wednesday, April 11 at 4:00 p.m. Moya loved gardening but in lieu of flowers you may wish to donate to Manitoba Cancer Care Foundation, 1160-675 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9 or www.cancercarefdn.mb.ca.
