Mirta was born on July 21, 1922 to Angel Santiago Franco Valieri and Rosa Edelmira Lavezzo Delbene. Mirta was raised on the family orchard-vineyard farm in Progreso where she also met her future husband in 1944 Enrique Jose Coll Orcazberro. She studied English and also was a house wife. Her first born child at the age of 26 was Enrique Jose Coll Franco. He was born October 17, 1948 and her second child at age 28 was born in January 12, 1950 Andrea Rosa Coll Franco who passed away at the age of 12 from a brain tumor. After the passing of her daughter, Mirta felt she wanted to give back and did volunteering at the Ospedale italiano di Montevideo where her daughter passed away and also started to study to become a nurse.
On May 5, 1969 Mirta and her son Enrique Jose arrived in Toronto Canada. She was always happy to see her family and cook succulent family meals for them when they came to visit. She spent a lot of her time with her grandchildren and being significant influence in their lives. Though the years, after becoming a Canadian, she traveled to Uruguay for vacations to see her Uruguayan family.
Toronto is where Mirta stayed until her son Enrique Jose and his son’s family crossed Canada in the summer of 2007 to collect Mirta and all her belonging to make the trip back to Edmonton Alberta. Mirta lived with her son Enrique Jose for a while until she needed more care.
Mirta wishes were to be cremated and to go home to Uruguay. Enrique Jose, Mirta’s son will make sure that happens the next time he goes to Uruguay where Mirta will rest in peace with her mom, dad, husband and daughter.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the doctors, nurses at The Good Samaritan Society South Care Center who cared for Mirta during her time there.
Any messages or memories would be appreciated as this is a keepsake for future generations to look back on Mirta’s life.
