MCCARTHY, Anne

Anne was born in Poland on April 25, 1923. She immigrated to Canada at age seven and began life as a Canadian citizen in Calgary, Alberta. She finished her schooling in Calgary and later moved to Cloverdale. Anne’s first career was a secretary, but she didn’t find the work very exciting and she wanted a change. Anne had always had the “travel bug” within her and worked as a travel agent for many years. She juggled the responsibilities of being a mom and a business woman. Anne enjoyed owning and operating her travel business called, “Cloverdale Travel.” Working within the travel industry allowed opportunities to travel extensively. She enjoyed visiting exotic parts of the world, especially shopping in Hong Kong. Anne was known for her “custom-made” suits that she ordered while abroad. Anne was married twice. Her second husband owned “Fortune Tours” and together they enjoyed even more traveling!
Anne decided to slow down a little and retire in Kelowna. The cold winters were not to her liking, so she would spend them in Phoenix. Anne loved to shop, be around people and play crib and other games. She loved the fresh air and was an avid golfer. Anne described herself as a people person–making people happy made her happy. She enjoyed a variety of recreation programs, especially outings and entertainment. Anne’s huge smile and kind heart drew many of us near her, as she was a pleasure to spend time with.
Anne is survived by her loving family: daughter Gayle Arena (Bruno) and grandson Robert, all of Calgary. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 27th at 3:30 pm at Springfield Funeral Home, 2020 Springfield Road, Kelowna, BC, with Father Cerlouie Jimenez officiating. Inurnment to take place in the Kelowna Memorial Park Cemetery.
