Deceased: Dec 30, 2014
Funeral Date: Jan 10, 2015
Legion Clubroom 1 to 3 pm
The family of Joseph Mazi(married to Reta Bacher)is sad to announce his passing on Dec. 30th, 2014 at the Dunnville War Memorial Hospital after a 2 year battle with cancer related illness, at the age of 86. Joseph came to Canada in 1930 at the young age of 2, with his mother Anna (Meiszter) from Bakoniszlop, Hungry to meet up with his father Joseph Sr., who was waiting in Muenster Sask. It was here Joseph Sr & Anna expanded their family to include siblings for Joe, brother Toni (married to Barb Roth), brother John (who is pre-deceased and was married to Joan Haggerty), brother Emerick (married Dean Coyne), sister Ann (who is pre-deceased and was married to Joe Seath), pre-deceased infant brother Frank, sister Elizabeth (married to Jack Postma), and youngest brother Eddie wife Sue. While raising their family Joseph Sr and Anna moved to Ontario settling in Dunnville, looking for a better life. It was in Dunnville Joe Jr and four of his siblings (Toni, John, Emerick & Ann) all took employment with Wabasso for many years. Both Joe and Reta worked at Wabasso (also known as Dominion Fabrics); Joe was there for 37years with many of his friends from Dunnville. Additionally Joe, along with brothers Toni and John joined the Byng Volunteer Fire Department, where they participated in the building of the original Byng Fire Hall and fundraising for a Fire truck at the hall. Joe served the community as a member of the Byng Volunteer Fire Department, No 5 Division for 30 years. After years of living in town, Joe and Reta moved from Concession Street in Dunnville to the River Road in the late 70’s, where they enjoyed many years of family parties, boating, waterskiing and snowmobiling with his children & friends (neighbours over the years included the Franklin’s, Reg and Liz Edie, Doug and Christine Hysert, the Craik family, and the Birdsell Family from Sunny Bank Park).
Joe was deeply loved by his children, and known as “Papa” to his grandchildren. His children included Howie and wife Mary Bacher (granddaughter Kristy & her husband Chris Johnson and their children (great-grandchildren)Alexis, Jacob & baby Tyler, and granddaughter Brandy Bacher), Donna Bacher (grandchildren Harvey, Melissa and Zachery), Steve & wife Julie Bacher (granddaughters Maxine, Corrine, and Margo), Cheryl (Bacher) & husband Paul Taylor (grandchildren Brittany and Brody). Additionally he had many niece’s and nephews that were very dear to him.
Joe enjoyed a full active life with Reta up until his illness of recent that slowed him down. Even in his 80’s he was still not afraid to tackle a tree that had fallen at the river with chainsaw in hand and he’d often invite family and friends to his “chainsaw” parties after the spring thaw along the river bed. Joe and Reta kept busy over the years with a favourite past time of fishing/camping outings that often involved friends Reg & Liz Edie. Additionally Reta and Joe did annual trips to Florida, Jeckly Island in Georgia in their motorhome, plus they loved Cruises which they did with their children/grandchildren and or friends in the Caribbean. Joe (Papa) was known to obtain the best tan while always sitting in the shade, he logged more hours towing water skiers and lit more bon fires then anyone can remember at the River, could fix anything with a motor, would plant a garden that could feed a town, and was not afraid to load up the motorhome with the grandchildren and head off to Darien Lake for the annual summer camping trip, or romp around Disney World for hours. He would often say he was so busy he had no idea how they (him & Reta) ever had time to work, however we believe this kept him very young at heart and a smile on his face. He will be deeply missed. Baby Joe’s passport picture with his mom & dad. Friends are welcome to attend a reception in the Club Room of the Royal Canadian Legion, Dunnville to Celebrate Joe’s life on Saturday from 1:00 to 3:00 pm. In lieu of flowers donations to Ronald McDonald House.

Nos plus sincères sympathies à la famille et aux amis de Mazi Joseph 2018.
