Mary Maureen Marguerite Victoria Bailey nee Johnston 2018 avis de deces

Maureen passed away peacefully at her home in Blenheim Lodge in Vancouver on July 6, 2018 surrounded by her family. We delight in knowing that Maureen is now with the Lord and reunited with her husband, brothers and parents.
Maureen was predeceased by her husband, Pyers Bailey and leaves behind her daughter, Margaret (David); son, Ross (Stephanie); her four grandchildren, Hannah, Darren, Keith and Kyle; her two step-grandchildren, Megan and Scott; sisters-in-law, Peggy, Betty and Margaret; brother-in-law, Roger (Carol) and numerous nieces and nephews.
Maureen Johnston was born June 7, 1925 in Vernon, BC. As the sixth child and only girl, she was a welcome addition to the family! When she was five, her family moved to Nanaimo, BC where she spent her formative years. Once in her twenties, Maureen wanted to relocate to the booming metropolis of Victoria, where she worked for several years as a bank-teller, bookkeeper and secretary before getting married.
In the mid-1950s, Maureen, pragmatist that she was, noticed her boss’s very good-looking single son and encouraged him to come around the office more frequently. She married Pyers Bailey in 1957 and over the next few years, they completed the family with daughter, Margaret and son, Ross. Although they loved Victoria and had many close friends, Pyers’ work took the family to Winnipeg in 1973 where they spent cold winter nights curling or playing bridge and summer at the family cabin on the Lee River. Finally, at retirement, the West Coast beckoned and Maureen and Pyers moved back to Victoria and settled in Oak Bay.
Maureen stayed in Victoria for several years even after Pyers died and then moved to Vancouver to be near her children. Finally, she became a grandma to Hannah in 2003 and then to Darren, Keith and Kyle in the following few years. She moved into several retirement homes throughout Vancouver and settled into Blenheim Lodge in 2009, where she comfortably lived out the rest of her long life!
Maureen had a deep Christian faith and loved to evangelize! She loved her parents, brothers and children very much. She spent many years happily married as a homemaker and enjoyed learning and going to university in Winnipeg as a “mature” student.
Maureen was a force of nature–perhaps being nurtured by five older brothers helped bring out this trait. She never cared what anyone thought of her and always had her own ideas on just about every subject. She mellowed out towards the end of her life and her caregivers always commented on her smile and happy disposition. We are thankful for her long-term caregiver, Anita, and the incredibly caring staff at Blenheim Lodge.
We imagine her in a beautiful place now and are so grateful that God graced her with a long, happy life and took her peacefully. Condolences may be offered to the family below.
