MACMILLAN, Mary Marguerite – 91 of Wilmot passed away peacefully at home May 25, 2018. Formerly of Coalburn, Pictou County, she was the eldest daughter of the late Alexander and Annie (Haggart) MacDonald. Mary attended high school in New Glasgow and later worked at Peter’s Lunch and McCarron’s Tea Room; she also worked for the Workman’s Compensation Board in Toronto. Active in the Wilmot Home and School Association, Mary also volunteered at the Middleton Rink canteen. She enjoyed gardening, baking biscuits, rolls, cookies and squares, making fudge (known locally at Halloween as the « Fudge Lady »); listening to her favorite Daniel O’Donnell CD’s at bedtime while working on her crossword puzzle; bowling (belonged to the Ladies League & Coffee League), bingo and endless hours « talking on the phone ». Mary loved Chinese Canadian cuisine; she and her best friends frequented all the Chinese establishments throughout the Valley and knew most of the owners by their first name! She was a member of the United Church, Kingston and a past member of the United Church Women’s Guild and Session. Mary also joined the Wilmot Garden Club in the late 60’s where she was Past President; honored as a « Life Member » and served as District Deputy; also served on the Board of the Nova Scotia Garden Club Association and was recognized for her work as Regional Director. Mary was a driving force behind the Club’s annual Flower and Garden Show. For many years she served as Judge of the Tremont and Forties annual garden shows. In 1978 Mary joined the Myrtle Rebekah Lodge and served in many capacities including Past Noble Grand (four occasions),Past District Deputy (five times), Past District President and in 2000 she received the highest award of « Decoration of Chivalry » for volunteers. Surviving are children Pat, Gerald (Gail), Mary Lou, Stuart (Debbie), David (Chrissie); extended family Bea and Marion M.; grandchildren Theresa (Bruce), Laura, Tom, Chad, Gina, Ryan, Joshua, Haley, Hannah, Sophie, Dave (Amy); great grandchildren Sidney, Kassidy, Kayleigh, Britney, Tyler; sisters Isabel and Blanche; brothers Buddy and Gerald; sister-in- law Dorothy and several nieces and nephews and her furry companion  » Mr. Sparkles ». Besides her parents Mary was predeceased by her in laws Mary Louise and Chad Sr., her husband Chad; infant daughter Teresa; brothers Alex and infant brother Spurgeon; son-in-law Wade; infant grandson; brothers-in-law Ernie, Hugh and Bob; sisters-in-law Joyce, Alma, Betty, Bertha and niece Nadine. Seniors. By request, cremation has taken place. A memorial service beginning with a Rebekah Lodge Tribute, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, June 3rd in the Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St., 902-825-3448 with Rev. Gayle MacDonald officiating. A reception for family and friends will follow the service. Private interment will take place in Pine Grove Cemetery, Middleton. Family flowers only please.
