McKenna – Stanton, Mary
« Hilda » – 93, of Truro, passed away peacefully, with her
family at her side on Sunday, December 16, 2018 in the
Colchester East Hants Health Center, Truro. She was a daughter of the
late Edmond and Mary (Ross) Shipley.
Hilda was a loving lady who had
a heart of gold, and her greatest wish of life was for her family to
accept Jesus as their personal savior. She was a minister’s
wife, a licensed nurse, and an accomplished poet, musician, artist and
song writer. She enjoyed arranging church services and monthly meeting
at the Robie Street Seniors Complex. Hilda loved adventure, music and
to encourage others.She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother,
sister, and a friend to all who knew her.
She is survived by sons, Robert
Stanton (Elisabeth) Truro; James (Diane) Stanton, Truro; Stephen
(Janie) Stanton, Londonderry; daughter, Heather Stanton,
Truro; brother, Gordon (Shirley) Shipley, Debert; sisters,
Annie Goodwin, Truro; Ethel Crossman, Truro; Rosie Proctor, Ontario;
sister-in-law, Lynn Shipley, Truro; grandchildren, Shane, Stephen,
Charlene, Neil, Chanel, Gail; many great grandchildren, who mom loved
dearly.
She was predeceased by her late
husband, Clarence Arthur Stanton; brothers, Wilfred; George;
Elroy; sister, Viola.
The family would like to thank
all who worked hard on Hilda’s behalf to get her home to
Truro to be with her family during her brief illness. Cumberland
Lodge, Truro Hospice Society, Palliative Care Unit of the Amherst
Hospital, and especially Jane Rogers of the Palliative Care Unit,
Truro for helping us navigate through this difficult time and also for
the kindness of the nursing staff on the Palliative Care Unit, Truro,
specifically nurse Taylor that asked to have Mom under her
care.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall ~ Varner
Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where Hilda’s family
will receive friends from 1-1:45 p.m., Thursday, December 20, 2018,
followed by a funeral service at 2 p.m., Reverend Roderick Bezanson
officiating. Reception will follow. Interment will be held in Robie
Street Cemetery, at a later date. Donations may be made to a
Truro Hospice Society. Private messages of condolence may be sent to
