It is with deep sadness that we announce that our loving mother passed away on March 26th, 2018 after a very brief battle with cancer. Mary was born on February 8th, 1933 in Shipman, Saskatchewan. She lived and worked on their farm until she left to go to Business College in Edmonton in 1950. After finishing Business College she moved to Regina where she worked at Sears. In 1954, she married John Gola and they lived in Prince Albert until 1959 when they bought a small parcel of land 2 miles east of Prince Albert. They moved the house they were living in and eventually built their own there. They raised four children as well as many animals on the acreage. Mary had a love for all sorts of animals. We had goats, cows, dogs, cats, geese, rabbits, and even pet crows during the years.
Mary worked at a few places (Wing’s Café, Acme Grocery) before getting a job with the Provincial Government. She retired in 1997 and being the person that never stops, she continued volunteering until a few weeks ago for the various sport clubs at Carnival Bingo. She was a member of the Army & Navy Ladies Auxiliary for many years and carried the flag on many occasions. She had a heart of gold and would help anyone. She was a very strong women that endured many hardships yet she remained positive and encouraging to everyone around her. She was a wonderful role model to her children and grandchildren.
She was very talented. She taught herself to play the guitar. She could draw, sew anything, knit, crochet, bake and build just about anything. She enjoyed being outside planting the garden, taking her children skating on the slough, sliding in the winter, swimming at the Shell river, and bike riding. Later on, she enjoyed taking trips to Las Vegas, Ottawa, North Dakota, and Edmonton with her daughters. She also travelled with her friend, George, to Rocky Mountain House and the Yukon.
Mary was predeceased by her parents: Nettie and John Evaniuk; husband: John; sisters: Anne (Biberon) and Jean (Planchot); son-in-law: Doug Corrigal; and her friend: George Corcoran. She is survived by her son: John (Twila); daughters: Debbi, Valerie (Chuck Hawkins) and Michelle (Darren Breckenridge); her grandchildren: Tamara, Adam, Samantha, Jared, Randi; great-granddaughter: Arabelle; and her pets: Mickey and Blackie.
A special Thank You to Dr. L. Malholtra, Dr. A. Brits and the nurses and staff at Victoria Hospital for their attentive care of our mom.
