Vavasour, Mary (Mollie)
Mary (Mollie) Vavasour (nee Moffett), April 21, 2018, peacefully, in her 99th year in Kitchener, Ontario. Beloved mother of Elizabeth (late Ted Ketchum), Cynthia (James Bousquet) and Ann. Sadly missed by her many nephews and nieces and their families and by step-grandson Michael Ketchum and his family. Predeceased by her brothers and sisters Mabel Mains, William Moffett, Patricia McCleave and Henry Moffett. Mollie had a special relationship with nieces Janet (Beggs) Dow and Janice (Moffett) Boyd and neighbour Toni Gasparini. Fondly remembered by her many friends in the Ottawa chapter of the Engineers’ Wives, Navy Wives, Southmore Bridge Group, Ottawa Horticultural Society and the Huntridge neighbourhood. Friend to all felines especilly Thomas and Snoops.
Mollie grew up in Marysville, New Brunswick (now Frederiction). At age nineteen, she started teaching in rural two-room school houses eventually getting a position at the Alexander Gibson Memorial School back in Marysville. Mollie was also a member of the Red Cross Dietetics Corps during the war. She was a mentor to young girls in CGIT and young peoples’ church groups. Marriage to Ken took her to Halifax, Victoria and Ottawa. She took great pride in her three daughters and their accomplishments. She herself was also an accomplished seamstress and needleworker and gardener where she used her flair for colour. She loved being a hostess and organized many parties and family get-togethers.
The family wishes to thank the team at The Village of Winston Park, Kitchener, including exemplary special care providers, for their compassionate care of Mollie over the last three and a half years.
Donations may be made to the Humane Society. A Celebration of Life will be held in June in Ottawa.
