Obituary Overview
Mary Buchanan
It is with infinite sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Mary Blanche Buchanan.
She was predeceased by her husband William (Buck) and by her parents Robert and Francis. She leaves to cherish her memory her sons Bill (Jo Ann) and Pat, grandchildren Corey (Korina), Jenna (Winston), and Sean (Nicole), great grandchildren Charley and Pete.
Our mother was a remarkable person. She had a heart of gold and the will of a lion. She contracted polio at a very young age which crippled one of her legs. However, that didn’t stop her from doing anything to which she set her mind. As a teenager and young adult, she taught music and performed on stage. She was an accomplished seamstress, she could knit, crochet and indeed made many of the clothes worn by her children and grandchildren.
Mom retired from the Accounting Dept. of the Winnipeg Free Press after working more than 30 years. Mom and Dad initially went on a couple of holidays; however, Mom’s real passion was fishing at Royal Lake. When the grandchildren also went to the lake (which was often) her world was complete. She was at her favorite place cooking for and playing with her favorite people.
When she was not fishing, cooking or sewing, mom loved to play bingo. It was a common sight for the women to pile into Mary’s car and head off to bingo 3 or 4 times a week. While the loss of our mother is heartbreaking, it is comforting to know that heaven just got a little bit better.
The family would like to thank the staff at Riverwood Square and River Park Gardens for the comfort, kindness and compassion they provided to Mary. The family would also like to thank Mary Demeyer and her daughter Elaine for the visits they made so special.
In honour of Mom’s wishes, a private family service will take place. If anyone so desires, a donation may be made in Mary’s name to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3T 0R3.
Nos plus sincères sympathies à la famille et aux amis de Mary Blanche Buchanan 2018..
