ROY, Marion Agnes “Chris” Christie
Marion Agnes Roy (nee Christie) entered into Eternal Rest on Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at the age of 88. She is survived by her husband, Andrew (married 66 years); three children, Ernest (Shelley Donald) of Squamish, BC, Judy of Fort McMurray, AB, and Gregory (Joan Bignell) of Calgary, AB; four grandchildren, Kristi-Anna (Knut Ulsrud) of Edmonton, AB, Megan (Hunter Langpap) of Fort McMurray, AB, Erika and Charlie (Lucy Talman) of Calgary, AB and great grandson, Cullen Langpap of Fort McMurray, AB. Chris was born on a farm in Lower Ireland, Quebec to Willard and Rose (nee Ward) Christie. She was predeceased by her four brothers and sisters, Phyllis Cooling, Irene McCammon, Ward Christie and Bill Christie.
She attended elementary school in Saint-Jean-d’Irlande and graduated from high school in Thetford Mines, Quebec. She then continued her studies and graduated from Macdonald College, Ste. Anne de Bellevue, with a teaching diploma. Her first position was in Windsor Mills, Quebec. Immensely popular, she captained the basketball team of the Crabtree Corporation Mill for two years. She then married “her Andrew” and raised her family in Montreal and later, in Quebec City. Her teaching career at Holland and Ste-Foy Schools (Greater Quebec School Board), came to a conclusion in 1981. She may best be remembered by the parents of her Chinese pre-kindergarten children for whom she laboured during the summer months to prepare them for English language examinations. A passing grade was required to enroll in English language education at that time.
During retirement she spent 19 wonderful summers in Prince Edward Island in Kildare Capes and would return to Calgary for the winter months. After selling their home on the Island, her adventurous spirit led her to spend another 10 joyous summers, off the grid, on the West Arm of Kootenay Lake in British Columbia. During the winter months she lived in Calgary, and visited and spent time with her children and grandchildren.
“Soldier on, Dear Chris, Mom and Kookum and know that in life we all loved you dearly, in death we love you still, in our hearts you hold a forever place that no one could ever fill.”
When funeral arrangements have been completed, extended family will be contacted. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the charity of your choice or St. James Anglican Church, 6351 Ranchview Drive NW, Calgary, AB, T3G 1B5.
