Peggy (Margaret) Bowman (nee Gregg)
July 8, 1923 – November 28, 2018
Peacefully in her sleep on November 28, 2018. Peggy (Margaret) Bowman (nee Gregg) a resident of Pinecrest, was re-united in paradise with her beloved husband, Swen. She was 95 years young.
Peggy leaves behind to mourn her loss are beloved sons Roger (Pat), grandson Cullan (Great grandchildren Sven & Eden), granddaughter Casey Bowman, Gregg (Linda) granddaughter Morgan (Daren & Great Granddaughter Piper Marie) grandson Dylan (Trish) Bowman. Also cherishing her memory are Lindsay Bowman, many nieces, nephews, and far too many friends to name, but we know who you are.
She is predeceased by her parents, soul mate, Swen Bowman, her brothers Jack, Jimmy, and sister Lilly.
Peggy was born to James and Mary Gregg on July 8, 1923 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She was the second youngest sibling of 4. After being born in Canada, Peggy and family returned to Ireland where her family was originally from. They eventually returned to Canada when Peggy was ready for high school.
In 1933, Peggy graduated from high school in Winnipeg and with the onset of World War 2, she joined the workforce at Trans Canada Airways as a mechanic’s helper, she was hoping to get her mechanic’s certificate and be the mechanic in a man’s world.
At the end of World War 2, she met Swen H. Bowman, they fell in love and were married in Kenora on March 3, 1947. During those years, Swen took on various jobs around Kenora, however in 1957 they both decided to become self-employed and formed Swen Bowman Electric Ltd. which they carried on business successfully until 1972. Shortly after retirement, they traveled the world together; all through Scandinavia (Sweden) where Swen was born, Europe, the United States, and across Canada in their motor home. Peggy was not a big fan of the motor home but enjoyed it only because she cherished her time spent with Swen. They met so many people in their traveling adventures who all became and remained life-long friends.
Swen and Peggy moved from their home on Regina Ave. in Kenora to their summer home located on Storm Bay Road, where they lived full time. She enjoyed bird watching, baking and knitting matching sweaters for each family member for Christmas and birthdays. Her and Swen always enjoyed having guests stop in for afternoon happy hour. They even had all the snow bird pilots over for a summer BBQ on the patio. They lived on Storm Bay road until Swen’s untimely passing in May 2003. Shortly after Swen’s passing, Peggy moved into her own apartment where she lived for several years before finding her final home at Pinecrest in 2014.
The family would like to thank Libby Anderson & Jo-Jo Roy and their children for countless visits and care towards Peggy. Both of you girls gave nanny great happiness during your visits, she could count on you for an evening conversation and always enjoyed getting her nails done. Also Alice Jardine- the KitKat lady, Knox Church ladies, 3G nurses, the Personal support workers, and the activation department at Pinecrest.
A huge special Thank You to Debbie Brown (Linda’s sister) who stepped in when the immediate family couldn’t and with technology, were able to keep in touch via FaceTime. Peggy never really understood how we got in the screen but nonetheless loved seeing the smiling faces of her family on the other end. We are so grateful to have been able to see and talk to her while being out of town through the years and right up until she passed away. Thank you Deb, you were like a second daughter in law to her.
At Peggy’s request, there will be no service, she will be interned with her soul mate at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please take a minute to cherish your loved ones, share laughs, stories and pictures as this is what Peggy loved to do. If you would like to make any sort of donation in honour of Peggy, you can direct any contributions to the Pinecrest Ladies Auxiliary.
Peggy was loved for her genuinely kind, humorous spirit, she will be greatly and forever missed by all who had the privilege to have known her.
Rest in Peace sweet lady, until we meet again.
