Brown, Madonna Kaye – It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Madonna Kaye Brown, age 83, who passed peacefully on July 3, 2018, with her family by her side. Madonna was born in Mooseland, and was a daughter of the late Boyd and Alice (Mitchell) Prest.
Surviving are her children, Kirby (Martha), and Kelly (Ken). She is also survived by her grandchildren, Alex (Lindsay), Kayleigh (Addison), Ainslie (Jessica), Marron (Jason), and Noah; great grandchildren, Jack, Blake and Harris Brown; brothers, Sterling (Valerie) Prest, Dugal (Elizabeth) Prest; sister, Donis Prest (Leo); sisters-in-law, Nancy Prest, Marilyn Prest; brother in-law, Henry Decker; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Jack; daughter, Melanie Kimber in infancy; brothers, Murray (Gladys), Fraser (Ola), Burnham, Sydney; sisters, Margaret (Robbie), and Marcheta.
Madonna attended Normal College in Truro and went on to teach in various schools in central Nova Scotia, retiring from the teaching profession in Middle Musquodoboit. She worked alongside her husband, Jack, in their business for many years. Madonna loved to travel and continually learn about other cultures, countries and people. She had a very generous spirit and touched many with her kindness. She adored her grandchildren and family times were very important to her.
She was a devoted member of St. James United Church, served on the UCW, and was a member of Women’s Institute of Nova Scotia. Madonna was deeply committed to her community and always willing to lend a helping hand.
Visitation will be Friday from 7-9 p.m. and funeral service will be Saturday at 4 p.m., both in St. James United Church, Upper Musquodoboit, with Rev. Dr. Linda Yates officiating. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery. A reception will be held at her family home on Caribou Road. Family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to Musquodoboit Valley Health Foundation – Braeside or a charity of choice.
Madonna’s family would like to extend a deep appreciation and thank you to everyone who has supported them along the way. Your compassion and care made all the difference. A special thank you to the staff of Braeside, Dr. Barry Giffin, Kimberly Newton NP, and the many caregivers who gave so much to Madonna, especially Rosalie Prest and Robin Fulton.
Arrangements are under the direction of Arimathea Funeral Cooperative, Upper Musquodoboit.
