Lula Reynolds Ailsby
The family announces the peaceful passing of Lula Reynolds Ailsby at age 99. Lula was born on December 6, 1918 at Pennant, Saskatchewan. She was an only child. She is predeceased by her parents William and Elizabeth Martin, her first husband Norman Reynolds, and her second husband Arthur Ailsby. She is survived by her only child, Sharon Douglas, her only grandchild Darcy Congdon (Carla) and her two great grandchildren Tyson and Shae Congdon. Lula was raised on the family farm at Pennant, SK that was homesteaded in 1909 by her parents William and Elizabeth Martin. She attended school in Pennant as well. Lula and Norman Reynolds were married in 1940 in Pennant. Their daughter Sharon was born in Swift Current in 1945. Lu, Norm and Sharon lived in Swift Current, then Virden, MB, Drayton Valley, AB and finally Edmonton, AB which was where Lu and Norm lived from 1961 to 1981. Sharon moved to Claresholm, AB and her son Darcy was born in 1970. Lu and Norm had a close relationship with their daughter and grandson. Darcy spent every summer break and most school holidays with his grandparents in Edmonton. Lu and Norm retired back to Pennant in 1981. Lu’s mother moved into the nursing home in Swift Current in 1983 and Lu traveled in from Pennant to Swift Current everyday to have supper with her. She always said it was the least she could do for the woman who raised her. She rarely missed a day until her mother passed away in 1988. During that time, Lu and Norm enjoyed camping and travelling in their motorhome across Canada and the U.S often taking Sharon and Darcy with them. Just eight years after retiring, and after 48 years of marriage, Norman lost his battle with cancer. Lu married Arthur Ailsby in 1989 and they lived in Pennant until 1997 when they moved to an apartment in Swift Current. Lu and Art enjoyed traveling – going on trips to Europe as well as Arizona. They also spent a few winters in Claresholm, AB so that they could be closer to Art’s family as well as Lu’s daughter Sharon. Art passed away in 2008 in Swift Current after losing his battle with cancer. Lu was an only child; her daughter was an only child and her grandson was an only child but by 1998 they all were living in the Swift Current/Pennant area. Sharon in the family home in Pennant and Darcy, his wife Carla, and their baby son Tyson in Swift Current. Lu or « GG » (Great Grandma) as she was now referred to as, enjoyed having family close and was excited to welcome her great granddaughter Shae in 1999. Over the last ten years Lu has received excellent care living in various facilities in South West Saskatchewan – The Bentley in Swift Current, Autumn House in Gull Lake, The Swift Current Care Centre as well as The Meadows in Swift Current. Her family is forever grateful for the patient, caring and generous staff that have attended to her and treated her so well. A graveside service will be held at the Pennant Cemetery, Saturday, May 5th at 2pm with a tea to follow at the Pennant Senior’s Centre. Warren’s Funeral Home were entrusted with the arrangements.
