Louise Marie McDonald

It is with broken hearts that we the family of Louise McDonald announce her passing. Louise passed away peacefully at the age of 96 on November 15, 2018 at the Dartmouth General Hospital surrounded by her family.
Born in Kansas City, Kansas, she was the daughter of the late John and Alma McNamara.
Louise is survived by her three children Arthur (Jennie), Kathy (Robert), Albert (Jan); grandchildren Graham(Maryam)William, Robert (Bronwyn), Kyle (Christina) , Jack (Anna), Erin (Justin), Brendan and five great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Arthur S. McDonald and her sister Mary Smith.
Louise grew up in Kansas City and during the depression she held a secretarial job with which she supported her family. She had an interesting career at the CIA after marrying the man who would be the love of her life for more than 50 years. She was an avid bridge player, a long time member of the Canadian Federation of University Women and the founder of the Dr. Arthur S. McDonald Memorial Foundation. Above all, she supported and loved each and every one of us unconditionally and taught us to never judge a book by its cover but rather by what was within.
We will remember her kind and generous nature, her love and loyalty to family and her beautiful smile. There will be a visitation Wednesday November 21 from 7:00 – 9:00 at the Dartmouth Funeral Home, 29 Queen Street. A celebration of her life will be held at St Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, 10 Maple Street in Dartmouth on Thursday November 22, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. followed by a reception.
