Obituary for
Lorraine Kehler
Beverley Lorraine (Belanger) Kehler passed away on July 20, 2018 at the age of 88 years after a brief and courageous battle with cancer. Lorraine is survived by her three children, Dianne Hankins, Katherine (Greg) Stern and Kenneth (Cheryl) Kehler; her grandchildren, Bree (Lee) Hankins, Brandi (Tom) Harper, Jordan (Cherisse) Stern, Ashley and Cory Kehler; her great-grandchildren, Taia and Cheyenne Harper, Jackson and Lily Stern, and Willow McLandress; her sister-in-law, Ellen Belanger; her nieces, Linda (Brian) Link, Bev Belanger, Colleen Belanger, Lyda (Andrew) Lovett, and her nephew, Warren (Heather) Belanger. Lorraine is predeceased by her husband, Henry Kehler; her brother, James Belanger; and her granddaughter, Dana Hankins. Friends and family were the most important loves in Lorraine’s life and she cherished them deeply. Lorraine always said Pat (Stan) Lerner was the sister she never had. Couponing, contesting, and card nights were her truest passions and she excelled in winning. Special thanks to the wonderful staff at Carmel Hospice, St. Joseph’s Home, for their comfort care and to Dr. Rinaldi for her ongoing care. Born in Cranbrook, B.C. on November 2, 1929. She grew up working with her family, moving to various job sites of lumber camps and highway/railway camps as the work became available. Lorraine’s role was that of bookkeeper from the time she was a young adult. It was in her travelling days with her family she met Henry, who rescued her from a particularly stressful job in Drumheller and returned her to her family campsite. He did such a great ongoing job as her rescuer in those days that she later married her “barefoot blue ridge mountain boy” in October of 1953. They settled in Medicine Hat shortly after, and contracted with the brick and tile as “Kehler Trucking Ltd”. Brookwood Auto Court was their first home here and where the oldest child Dianne was born in 1955. By 1957, they built their dream home on Riverside where they have resided ever since. 1959 brought their second child, Kathy, and in 1965 the third child, Ken. All the while Lorraine did the books for, the then well established, Kehler and Belanger Trucking firms and kept both business and home fires going in the background. Lorraine added to the family income with her couponing and contesting skills in her spare time that rivalled many 2nd income families. Lorraine enjoyed being a homebody and her greatest joys were her family and friends and a fired up game of cards. Rest in peace with those you love and have went before you mom.
