Obituary Overview
Lorraine Hanson
Lorraine Ima Hanson
1928-2018
It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Lorraine Ima Hanson on June 3, 2018. Lorraine is pre-deceased by her husband John Hanson, her parents Stanley Chant and Ima Chant (Locke), her brothers Ernest Chant, John Chant and Clinton Chant and her sisters Myrtle Hupp and Dorothy Doerksen.
She is survived by her sons Keith (Bev) and family (Kris, Denine, Danika, Porter, Ryker), (Jim, Marissa), (Rob, Sarah, Mila, Stella) and Glenn (Connie) and family (Emma). She is also survived by her sister Elda Dyck as well as numerous other relatives.
Lorraine was born on July 1, 1928 in Neidpath, Saskatchewan. She grew up on the farm with her family in the Roderickville area. Always a spark of life, her infectious spirit made her a very popular friend. She completed her highschool education in Swift Current after which she began her working life. Lorraine met a young man (John Hanson) who was a veteran of World War II at a country dance. Not long after, they were engaged and on May 24, 1949 they were married.
Lorraine always enjoyed sewing and sales. She worked for Singer Sewing Machine Company where she became the second highest sales person in Canada. Lorraine worked in a number of different business areas over her career but her true joy came from the time she spent in volunteering her time and creative abilities for the Royal Purple, Eastern Star and other charitable organizations where she served as the Honoured Royal Lady and other similar positions. She enjoyed traveling around Saskatchewan with the people in the Rambling Rovers Trailer Club and also the trips that she and John took to Hawaii, Barbados, Mesa and other interesting places.
Lorraine loved to play cards, Bridge, Kaiser and Cribbage being some of her favourites. Family card games were her absolute favourite activity. Lorraine had a wonderful sense of fashion and loved to make and wear costumes and hats. She had style! An accomplished painter, her art adorned her home and that of her children. She loved to be around people and got such pleasure from organizing events for family, friends and special occasions. Playing the piano and organ also brought her great pleasure and she continued to play for the residents at Sherbrooke Community Center where she lived for the last 9 months. She was a true friend, generous of her time and spirit. Always showing an interest in people and their lives, she was a ray of sunshine that we will all miss very much.
The family would like to thank the staff at St. Paul’s Hospital and Sherbrooke Community Center for their compassionate and loving care of Lorraine. The funeral service will be held on Friday, June 8, 2018 at 2:00 pm at the Hillcrest Funeral Home. Refreshments to follow. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to Crohn’s and Colitis Canada.
