Lino Francesco Perossa August 8 1935 October 6 2018 (age 83) avis de deces

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Lino on October 6, 2018 at his home in Houston, BC.
Born and raised in Monte di Capodistrie (at the time Italy, now Slovenia) August 8, 1935 to parents Francesco Perossa and Olga Bonin. Once the Italian territory passed under Yugoslav administration, it was difficult to leave the country. Many escaped, some were successful some were not, they were killed by the armed troops while crossing the border.
Lino took his chances and successfully crossed the border through the woods and sailed on the Vulcania emigrating to Canada May 1957. In Italy he worked as a farm hand and wharfie. In Canada, his first job was working construction on the railway. He soon found his way to Houston, worked as a bouncer and began his career in the lumber industry retiring after 43 years with Northwood, now Canfor, April 2000. He married his first true love, Freida Shepert, September 28, 1967. Together they raised their daughter, Viola and son, Marino. Tragically he lost his first wife in 1973. He met his second true love in 1984 and married Mary Wood December 31, 1995, widowed for a second time in 2003.
Lino is survived by his son Marino Perossa (Baubie) of Maple Ridge, BC, Stepchildren Viola Nick (Dave) of Langley, BC, Shirley Higgins (Hal) of Vernon, BC, Fred Wood (Leona) of Kaslo, BC and Dave Wood (Brenda) of Kamloops, BC. Lino is also survived by 10 grandchildren – Michael, Travis, Jacob, Kristy, Kelly, Morgan, Lindsey, Collin, Ellie, Ryan and 14 great grandchildren.
Lino leaves to mourn two sisters and their families in Italy, Nerina Perossa (Carlo Passerini) of Sistiana, Italy and Nadia Perossa, Trieste, Italy, 3 nieces Vivien (Sergio), Michelle and Valentina (Marco), 5 great nephews and 2 great nieces. Predeceased by his brother in law Gino Abrami.
Lino loved being in the bush and driving the logging roads. He also loved and took great pride in his vegetable and flower gardens. His garden was so abundant he loved to share with family and friends. Over the years he enjoyed travelling to visit his children in the Lower Mainland and to Italy to visit family. In later years he purchased a travel trailer and boat enjoying camping and fishing in northwestern BC.
As his family slowly moved away he had no desire to leave Houston, he was happy living on the Buck Flats Road – his family often referred to him as the Mayor of Buck Flats and he always got a kick out of being called that. Residents of Houston will remember Lino for his larger than life personality and the colorful character he was as he frequented the A & W and Houston Mall daily.
Lino loved his family and as a family we are grateful for each moment we shared with him. The family is thankful for the expressions of sympathy received. A private family celebration to be held.
Memorial tributes gratefully accepted by Houston Hospice, Box 385 Houston BC V0J 1Z0
