OBITUARY
Lillian Anna Wilson
September 14, 1929 – March 13, 2018
Lillian Anna Wilson (nee Murphy), 88, passed away on March 13, 2018. Rejoice in my passing and celebrate my life. Those who knew Mom share memories of time filled with love, playfulness, prayer, song, tears, and laughter. Mom had a pure heart, a love of life, family and friends. She is now united with our Dad, George, who passed far too young and never forgotten.
After living in Riverview, NB for 45 years, Lil’s adventure to Cobble Hill BC started with a trip of a life time, a visit to Rome to see the Pope Francisco at St Peter’s Square. During her final days, her daughter Jackie read several prayers from a satchel that contained a post card of St Peter’s Square with Lilly’s hand written note “celebrated my 85th birthday in Rome, had a blessing from Pope Francis, also a mass…it’s all like a dream but it’s real.”
Living the dream continued for the remainder of her life. Family and friends were envious of the mild BC winters and Lilly often described her new found home as paradise on earth, living independently next door to her daughter Jackie and daughter in-law Shawna.
The moment you met Lil, you felt like you had known her your whole life and that you truly mattered. Depending on your life story, she was a mother or a friend. Lilly’s nurturing heart radiated love to everyone she met including members of St Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Island Pharmacy Shawnigan Lake, Cobble Hill neighbours, Lorne the handy dart driver, Barb her home hair dresser, staff at the Mill Bay Thrifty Food, children at the library, VIHA home care, Cowichan Hospital, and all the staff at Acacia in Shawnigan Lake.
Mom had noteworthy visits to Cobble Hill from her brother Bill, (a.k.a. Jim), all her children, as well as several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and special friends such as Sharline and her best friend Shirley and Shirley’s husband Bill. Like a true “down homer” Mom broke out the playing cards and lit up with joy at the opportunity to play morning, noon, and night!
The day prior to her passing she shared a special time with her daughter Jackie driving through the back roads of Cowichan Valley, a stop for ice cream, with the sun on her face and the fresh sea breeze flowing through her hair. In her final hours Mom was anointed by Father Sean Flynn and passed away in the arms of her daughter and daughter-in-law.
Lillian was predeceased by her husband George; her parents John and Lucy (nee Miller) Murphy; her infant twin sister Winnifred; her sister Blanche and brother Cyril. She is survived and will be sadly missed by her brother William James Murphy (Doris) of Wasaga Beach ON; her children Brian Wilson (Teresa) of Kingston ON, Jocelyn Sparks (Neil) of Riverview NB, Glendora Boland (Ron) of St. John’s NL, Shelley Bernabei(Ettore) of Kingston ON, Jacqueline Wilson (Shawna) of Cobble Hill BC and Gerald Wilson (Jane) of Moncton NB; her grandchildren Lina, Chris, Allison, Kate, Meg, Anthony, Nadia, Isaac, Cailin and Caroline; her great-grandchildren Lillian, Islay, Brooke, Tayven, Nora, Felix, Tony, Frankie and Joey. Forever loved and remembered always.
A special thanks for the exceptional care and compassion she received from Dr Paul Harris, Dr William Reynolds, Rosemary at Island Pharmacy Shawnigan Lake, Barb Stewart her in home hair dresser, and all the staff at Acacia Ty Mawr and those that shared her final moments, Andrea, Steph and Joy. Your kindness to our Mom is truly appreciated. God love her.
A Celebration of Life will take place on May 14, 2018 from 6-8 pm Cobbs Funeral Home in Riverview NB. A Funeral Mass will be held on May 15, 2018 at 11am in Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Riverview followed by inurnment in Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery.
In memory of Lil, donations may be made to the British Columbia Lung Association or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
