December 28, 1932 – April 24, 2018
Rotteveel, Leonardus – Peacefully on Tuesday, April 24, 2018, at Northumberland Hills Hospital, Cobourg, in his 86th year. Leo was the beloved husband of Liz for 47 wonderful years. He is survived by his step son Ruud(Rachel), and was Opa Leo to Tom and Mark(of the Netherlands). Brother of Peit, Dora, Janny, An, Juut, Jo, Riet and Trees. He is survived by in-laws Ad(Ank) and Dick(late Mieke). Leo was the uncle to many nieces and nephews and their families in Canada and The Netherlands. Born in Hazerswoude, The Netherlands, Leo immigrated to Canada in 1955. In 1957 he and his best friend Tom Redegeld bought a poultry farm and moved to Colborne where he lived the rest of his life. Through the years Leo had many interests; amongst them fishing, gardening, raising finches, scuba diving, travels to Mexico and the Caribbean, and was a long-time member of the Colborne Curling Club….and he really enjoyed a good game of cards! Leo drove a school bus for two generations of students to the Cramahe Public School and enjoyed the time with the kids. We will miss his humour, smiles, and warmth. Leo was a blessing to those who knew him and we were honoured to have been part of his life. Visitation will be held on Friday, April 27, 2018 from 5 – 8 p.m. at MacCoubrey Funeral Home, Colborne. A mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, April 28, 2018 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Grafton. Interment St. Mary’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Christian Children’s Fund, or the St Mary’s Catholic Church (Grafton) steeple fund. Condolences received at www.MacCoubrey.com.
