DUNN, Leonard Morrissey

It is with deep sadness that we, the family of Leonard (Lenny) Dunn, announce his peaceful passing on November 7, 2018, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in North Sydney on May 3, 1929, he was the son of the late Morrissey and Mary (Wilkie) Dunn.
Lenny spent his younger years in North Sydney. He met his beautiful bride, Marie DeCourcy, in Sydney where they married in 1957. Lenny built with pride a solid family home on Herbert Street in Ashby, where he and Marie would go on to provide the most amazing upbringing for their seven children. Lenny had a unique carpentry ability and was a man of sharp wit. Lenny enjoyed a long career with Canadian National Railway in both Sydney and North Sydney, retiring in 1987.
Lenny is survived by his loving wife, Marie; daughter, Elaine Barrington (Billy) Coxheath; sons, Larry (Robina) Sydney, Jim (Paula) Dartmouth, Bob (Laurie) Fort McMurray, AB, Brian (Susie) Calgary, AB and Steve, Canmore, AB. Also left to mourn are his beloved grandchildren, Aaron, Christina (Greg Alexander), Lauren, Jillian, Patrick, Alex, Ryan, Sean, Breagh, Gabriel, Elleri, and Breo. Lenny is also survived by his sister, Jeanette (Tom) McMullin, and brothers, Gerard and Jamie.
Besides his parents, Lenny was predeceased by his daughter, Maureen and siblings, Kilmer, Patrick, Joan, Betty, Norma, and Terry.
The Dunn family would like to thank the amazing staff at Harbourstone, Dr. John Archibald, the staff at 3B as well as the AnCala Palliative Care Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital for their heartfelt care.
Cremation has taken place. There will be a visitation held from 12-2 p.m. at Chant’s Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra Street on Saturday, November 10th followed by a celebration of life at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Interment to follow at a later date at Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
Donations in Lenny’s memory can be made to Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation or a charity of one’s choice.
