Lawrence Keith Lynch
1937-2018
Lawrence Keith (Larry) Lynch – 80, of Wolfville,
Kings Co., passed away on Sunday, February 11, 2018 in Grand View
Manor, Berwick with his loving wife Christine by his side. Born in
Greenhill, Hants Co. he was the son of the late Raymond and Mary
(Canavan) Lynch. He grew up in Newport Corner and attended Windsor
Academy, hitchhiking the 10 miles to and fro each week. After
graduating in 1954 he joined the Bank of Nova Scotia at age 17
(« shaving once a week! ») starting a career of 40
years. He first worked in Windsor’s Gerrish St. branch with
short assignments in Westphal NS, St. Andrews, St. Stephen and
Sackville, N.B., followed at age 20 by a move to Toronto. Over the
next few years he worked at Yonge & St. Clair, Lawrence and
Birchmount, then in Hamilton, Belleville, Galt and Kitchener branches.
In 1970, he became Senior Assistant Manager in Nassau, Bahamas. In
1972, he was offered the post of Manager in Piraeus, Greece. It was
there he met his future wife, then an Immigration Officer at the
Canadian Embassy in Athens. A posting to Dublin, Ireland (and
marriage) followed in 1974 and 2 years later a posting to Port of
Spain, Trinidad. Promised a return to Canada, he worked in various
positions in Ontario; in Regional office for Eastern Canada, as Area
Manager of about 30 Branches west of Toronto and in head office.
Another international assignment followed as Managing Director in
Scotiabank affiliate Maduro and Curiel’s Bank, Curacao,
where he served until his retirement in 1995. While in Curacao, he
also served as Canadian Consul. Upon retirement, Larry moved to
Wolfville, N.S., where he took a keen interest in town affairs, was
for a time member of the Wolfville Curling Club, and served in
executive positions in a number of community groups such as Friends of
the Library and the Atlantic Theatre Festival. He was a regular at
Tims. He made many firm friends square dancing with the Hightide
Twirlers, singing tenor as a member of the Dukes of Kent Barbershop
Chorus and playing his beloved guitar with the Kings Fiddlers. In
addition to his parents, he is pre-deceased by his sister Helen Pate,
brother-in-law John Pate, and brother, Charles. He will be terribly
missed by his wife Christine, Wolfville, his daughter Carol,
son-in-law Benn Millman, grand-children William and Charlotte, of Port
Moody B.C., brother Darryl (Debbie), Inisfil, Ont., sister-in-law
Wilma Lynch, Windsor, aunts Evelyn McPhadden and Pearl Lauder, as well
as cousins, nephews, nieces and friends both local and distant.
Christine would like to thank the staff at Grand View Manor for their
care and compassion in Larry’s final days. Funeral
Arrangements are entrusted to White Family Funeral Home and Cremation
Services, Kentville and cremation has taken place. At a future date,
family and friends will gather to celebrate Larry’s life.
