Obituary of Larry Albert Doraty
September 10, 1952 – February 6, 2018
Larry was born in Regina, Saskatchewan to Lucy and Lyle Doraty and is survived by his siblings, Garry Doraty (Heather), Randy Doraty (Christine), Diedre Upton (Ron), Delee Pyne (Mark) Danica George (Wayne) and his mother, Lucy. He is predeceased by his father Lyle in May 1987. Larry is lovingly remembered by his nieces and nephews: Matthew, Meghan, Dagan, Kailey, Kelton, Jason, Justin, Jessica and Marisa.
Larry and Patty married in June 1999 and they welcomed their son, Spencer, on January 31, 2001. The best moments of Larry’s life were spent with his son Spencer. Larry was the person who taught Spencer how to play baseball, soccer and golf. Golf held a special place in both of their hearts. Larry found the perfect partner in Spencer and got to realize the dream of playing on many courses with his son. Every year, Spencer strove to beat his dad at the game and got very close. But, let’s be honest, Larry was very competitive so Spencer’s dream of winning remained a challenge every Sunday.
Spencer and Larry were enthusiastic supporters of, and enjoyed watching, all the Toronto sports teams, especially the Toronto Maple Leafs (a nod to the great Ken Doraty) and the Argos. It was a family tradition for Larry, Patty and Spencer to attend as many Blue Jays games as possible, including opening day, Canada Day and spring training in Dunedin.
One special memory was Spencer and Larry travelling out west for a boys’ vacation and fishing with Larry’s brother Randy. Larry, Patty and Spencer enjoyed many family vacations together and they are grateful to have those memories to hold on to.
For over twenty years, Larry was a valued of Patty’s family. Her mom, brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews will miss him at family gatherings and special events. Although Larry was a quiet guy, he could always surprise all of us with his wit when we would least expect it. Baseball games and family dinners just won’t be the same.
Larry’s long and extensive career at CMHC brought him great satisfaction and accomplishment. He is thankful for the time he spent with all his colleagues and he is grateful for the memories, their support and friendship.
The funeral service will be held on Monday, February 12 at 10:00 am at St Gabriel Parish (670 Sheppard Avenue East). In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. The family wishes to extend gratitude to the doctors and nurses at North York General Hospital for their tireless attention, respectfulness, compassion and excellent care.
