Obituary for
Kenneth D. Jamieson
In loving memory of
Sergeant Kenneth D. Jamieson
November 21st, 1922 – September 2nd, 2018
It is with a heavy heart, regret and sorrow that we have another passing of a decorated Canadian WWII Veteran. This one being especially important to me, my father, Sergeant Kenneth D. Jamieson of the Regiment The Queen’s Own Rifles of Canada, C Company. He succumbed to illness Sunday, September 2, 2018, at 14:20 in my arms at Sainte-Anne’s Veterans Hospital in Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue, Québec. He was a very special, respected and honoured man. A survivor even though severely wounded during the D-Day invasion and landing as first assault wave to embark on Juno Beach, Normandy June 6, 1944. He is also the oldest standing member of 73 years of the Iroquois Falls Legion Branch 70. He worked as a specialized welder versed and certified in many applications for the Abitibi Pulp and Paper Mill. He was past president of his union I.A.M.A.W. (International Association of Machinists & Aerospace Workers). He was also a past town counsellor and past school board counsellor. He was one of the many volunteers using his working skills in the early town grand scale project to erect the town arena. He was one of the longest-standing members of 62 years as a Freemason, Abitibi Lodge #540 in Timmins. In all, a very talented and honest individual that you were proud to have shaken hands with. The ‘Northern Boy’ as he called himself has now returned to his home town of Iroquois Falls where he spent the majority of his life with his family. He was frequently asked how he was doing and he would always reply, “I’m still here.” Ken has now joined his late wife of 70 years, Doreen, may they now continue to live happily ever after. He leaves behind his only son David L. Jamieson, his daughter-in-law, Diane Pigeon, her daughters Angela (Patrick), Anna (Dan), his brothers and sisters, late Monty (late Simone), late Joan (late Doug), late Betty (late Art), Dick (Joan), late Barbara (late Bob), Ethel (late Jack), Jack (Janet), late Phyllis, as well as a very dear friend Kay O’Mara (late Danny), her children Patricia (Gordon), Debbie (Ken), Danny (Carol), David’s in-laws, Yvonne Pigeon (late veteran Paul J. Pigeon) along with many beloved nieces and nephews, the Legionnaires and many Iroquois Falls friends. My Dad will be truly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate charitable donations made in his name to the Sainte-Anne’s Veterans Hospital Foundation, 305, Boul. des Anciens-Combattants, Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue, QC H9X 1Y9.
The Visitation will take place on Sunday, September 30th at Irvine & Irvine Funeral Home from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. The funeral will be held on Monday, October 1st at St-Mark’s Anglican Church at 11:00 am followed by his burial at the cemetery after which family and friends are invited to celebrate Ken at the Legion Hall.
Ken was a loved and much-respected man who had an impact on so many people. We thank all of you who have been part of his life.
David L. Jamieson and Diane Pigeon.
