Mary Katherine (Kay) Bell
Mary Katherine Ann (Kay) Bell, widow of the late John (Jack) Bell, passed away peacefully on January 7th, 2018 at the age of 83, at the Miramichi Senior Citizens Home surrounded by her family.
Kay was born on March 27, 1934 in Chatham, New Brunswick. She was married to John (Jack) Bell for 47 years. She is survived by her six children: Carmel (Rick) Sargent, Lynn Oglivie, Margie (David) Robichaud, Gary Nowlan, Jackie (Myles) Brideau, and Wilson (Cheryl) Bell all of Miramichi and leaves behind 17 grandchildren: Jodie, Kyle, Greg, Steven, Aaron, Karen, Laura, Joel, Ryan, Jonathan, Jillian, Tanis, Michael, Josh, Kennedy, Braden, Kamryn, and 18 great grandchildren. She is survived by her sisters, Patsy Kennedy, Anne (Jeff) Dewolfe, Carmel (Gerald) Mullins, and her brother Billy Kennedy, sister-in-law Joan (Gerald) Mahoney, and her brother-in-law Herbie (Toots) Bell, all of Miramichi, along with several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, William and Isabelle Kennedy, Kay was predeceased by her husband Jack; her sister Rita and her first husband Arthur Nowlan.
Kay was employed by Hotel Dieu Hospital for 35 years in the Nursing Services and the Payroll Departments. She was a parishioner of St. Michael’s Basilica and a retired member of the CWL, Santa Maria, RCIA, Purple Hat Ladies, Crime Stoppers, Howard Henderson House and was a volunteer at St. Michael’s Parish Museum.
Kay’s first passion in life was her family. She was fondly referred to as Mommy Kay by not only her grandchildren but by her family and friends alike. Kay enjoyed hosting family gatherings at her home, “The more the merrier” was her motto. She rarely missed sporting events or other activities that her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren participated in. In addition to spending time with her family, she loved to travel with her beloved husband Jack, going on Mystery Bus Tours, shopping, and enjoying each other’s company. Kay was a die-hard fan of both the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Toronto Blue Jays.
A celebration of Kay’s life was celebrated at St. Michael’s Basilica on Wednesday, January 10th, 2018 at 11 am, conducted by Father Paul Doucet, assisted by Father John Keoughan. Music for the Mass was provided by Krista Hutchinson and the hymns were « Be Not Afraid », Make Me A Channel of Your Peace », « Hail Mary, Gentle Woman », « Song of the Angels » and « To The River I Am going ». The scriptures were read by Jodie Driscoll and Jessica Sargent and the Prayers of Intercession were led by Jodie Driscoll. The eulogy was offered by Shannon Woods.
Interment will be in St. Michael’s cemetery later in the Spring. Honorary pallbearers were Donnie & Colleen Richard, Blair & Thelma Carroll, Leonore & Billy Hilchey, Buddy & Audrey Benjamin, Carmen & Nellie Williston, Michael & Heather Lloyd, Susan Dickson, Tilly O’Neil-Gordon, Joyce Forbes, Marty Hawkes, Leila Worrell, Bill Walls Sr., Ann Duplessie and Donna Chiasson. Member of Santa Maria Auxillary as well as members of the Miramichi Police Force sat as a body for the service. Active pallbearers were Greg Sargent, Kyle Ogilvie, Steven Ogilvie, Braden Bell, Joel Robichaud and Jared Driscoll.
Visitation was at Adams Funeral home, 140 King Street, Miramichi on Tuesday.
