Obituary for John Xavier Finlayson
Born in Glace Bay, Cape Breton on March 24, 1941. Following a brief illness on Saturday, December 22, 2018 at Groves Memorial Community Hospital in Fergus. John Finlayson of Elora in his 78th year. Predeceased by his wife Patricia Finlayson (nee Turner) in 2006. Loving father to Gerald (Rosemary), Brian (Lisa), John and Helen (Steve). Beloved “Poppie” of Carolyn, Bradley, Jillian, Michael, Jayne and Jack. Survived by his brother Gerald (Marylou) of Reserve Mines, his sisters Marie of Boston, Helen (David MacNeil) of Glace Bay and Jane of Reserve Mines and sister in law Ursula. Predeceased by his parents Dan and Margaret (nee MacLeod), brothers Frank (Beth), Cyril, Art, Alexander and Reginald. John was a proud member of URW Local 677 and employed at BF Goodrich tire plant for 30 years. John was an avid sports fan, enjoyed golf and a devoted Blue Jays and Leafs fan. The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the second floor medical nursing staff at Groves Memorial Hospital for their devoted care. Friends will be received at the Graham A. Giddy Funeral Home & Chapel, 37 Church St. East in Elora, on Thursday, December 27th, 2018 from 2 – 4 & 7 – 9pm. Funeral Service will be conducted in the Funeral Home Chapel, on Friday, December 28th, 2018 at 2:00pm. Interment Service will be held at a later date at St. Mary – St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Elora. Memorial Donations can be made to the Groves Memorial Hospital Building Fund.
