Great-Grandchildren Joe, Owen, Nathanele, Aidan, Kylah, Aeliah, Lendl, Ronin, and Ryah.
John’s siblings were Nan (Owen), Margie, Evelyn (Francis), Jamie, Francis (Kathleen), Tommy (Sheila), Eugene (Kathleen), Gerry (Jane). Many of his sibling are already in heaven ready to greet him but his brothers Gerry and Eugene will be having mass said in Ireland with in-laws Sheila and Kathleen and John’s many nieces and nephews many of whom have visited John in Canada.
John was born in Latton, Ireland on November13, 1925 to Patrick and Kate Lynch. He grew up on the family farm and has wonderful memories that he shares with this brothers and sisters. When he finished school, John owned a store in Ireland but decided to move to Canada to try his luck there. At the age of 25 he was encouraged to come to Canada by his Uncle Tom and Aunt Nora who lived in Portage La Prairie. Uncle Tom and Aunt Nora helped John get settled in Canada but the greatest gift was leading him to his future wife, Theresa O’Neil. John was able to secure a job with the MTS (Manitoba Telephone Company), and soon after that he married the love of his life.
John met Theresa in Portage la Prairie. They were married in 1953. They settled in Winnipeg and Theresa gave up her teaching career to start a classroom of their own. They proceeded to have 6 children in 10 years. They spend many happy years raising their family and enjoying family vacations travelling across Canada in their camper trailer. Weekends were often spent going to church, taking day visits to the beach and visiting with family in Portage La Prairie. When the children were older John and Theresa began to travel around the world. Their most exciting trip was their first trip back to Ireland to see John’s family! After this trip family from Ireland starting to come to Canada. Nothing would give Dad more joy than to host his Irish relatives in Canada. He was especially proud when his own children and grandchildren began to visit his homeland. Dad’s Love (Theresa and Children) were in Canada, but a little piece of his heart always stayed in Ireland.
John’s life centered around his family. He was so proud of his family and their accomplishments and loved spending time with his grandchildren. The entire family has wonderful memories of countless pool parties in their back yard. Mom and Dad loved their home in St. Germain. They spent their free time gardening and swimming in their pool. Their home was filled with children, pets, fresh produce and much love.
Over the past few years, Dad has had some serious hospital stays, but he always managed to fight his way out of the hospital so he could spend more time with the love of his life. He always said his favorite sight was to see Mom’s bright brown eyes. This last hospital stay was just too much and he needed to go to heaven and live a pain free life with his family members who have gone before him. Dad will forever be loved and his presence is still felt. He came to Canada with a small suit case and he leaves behind a legacy of love, loyalty, faith and devotion. His suitcase is overflowing, we love you John!
Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, June 28, 2018, at 11:00 at St. Timothy’s Church, 135 John Forsyth Road.
