Dr. John Raymond George Bryce of Pointe-Claire died on April 25, in his 91st year, at the West Island Palliative Care Residence. He was born to John Smith Bryce and Bertha Topping of Vancouver and was predeceased by his sister Diane MacCready. John is survived by his wife, Virginia Halliwell, his children Barbara, Stephen (Louise), Elizabeth (Paul), Deirdre (Bruce), Christine (Mark), and 14 grandchildren: Samuel, Emilie, Ecaterina, Ruth, Rebekah, Luke, Patrick, Paige, Jessie, Jason, Jane, Michael, Julien and Emma. He was caring and fun-loving, read widely and cared passionately for the unspoiled environment. John’s career in the pulp and paper industry included Howard Smith Paper Mills, Domtar Research, Paprican and McGill, thereafter volunteering with CESO in Asia. A thoughtful Christian, John dedicated countless hours to St. John’s United Church, Cubs and Scouts, St. Columba House and mentored many young people over the years. He loved gardening and preserving his harvest. Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 16, 7-9 pm, at Collins Clarke MacGillivray White, Pointe-Claire, and Thursday, May 17, 11 am, at St. John’s United, 98 Aurora, Pointe-Claire. A celebration of John’s life will follow at 12 noon. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. John’s United Church, St. Columba House or West Island Palliative Care Residence would be appreciated.
