After a long and courageous battle with cancer, John passed away peacefully on the morning of Friday November 16th, 2018 at Grand River Hospital in Kitchener, with his sister Judy and brother-in-law Gord by his side.
Born in Preston Ontario on March 11th,1939, John was a father of 3 boys, Stephen, Michael and John. He is preceded in death by wife Norma, the love of his life, as well as parents Susan and George Lassel, brothers George, James and sister Helen.
Johnny a lover of Schnauzers, will be sorely missed by his four legged furry companion Niki, who enjoyed their walks through the park and cuddles on the couch. In his younger years, John was a volunteer Firefighter with the Preston Fire Dept. and then went on to become a staff member of Steve’s TV, where he worked for over 2 decades until his retirement. John had many passions which included being an avid audiophile and well as an enormous love of woodworking. His skill and craftsmanship were always admired by both family and friends, many of whom will continue to cherish the incredible pieces he created. He was known for his quick wit and his love for a good bottle of wine which he often shared with his neighbor, friend and wine tasting buddy Marg. John leaves behind many long time friends and family, including numerous nieces and nephews.
A very special thanks to Dr.Kelly, nurses and staff at Grand River Hospital for their compassionate care. As per John’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service, donations can instead be made to the Kitchener-Waterloo Humane Society. Visit www.henrywalser.ca for John’s memorial.
