OBITUARY
Joginder Singh Anand
October 1, 1941 – July 10, 2018
Joginder Singh Anand, 76 of Edmonton, passed away peacefully in his sleep on July 10th, 2018 at Grey Nuns Hospital after being diagnosed with Cancer. Joginder Singh was born on October 1, 1941 in Rawalpindi India (now Pakistan) to Jaidev Singh Ji & Harbans Kaur Ji Anand. He was the 3rd child of 6 children.
At around 4 years of age he became orphaned and also lost 3 sisters to religious violence as India and Pakistan underwent partition. For the next 16 years, Joginder Singh and his 2 surviving siblings, older brother Raghbir Singh and younger sister Gursharan Kaur were raised by different maternal relatives in Rawalpindi, Kashmir & Tilak Nagar-Delhi.
At a young age Joginder Singh followed the brave footsteps of his older brother Raghbir Singh and moved to Bombay where he built a successful business life for himself. He married Sardarni Parvinder Kaur Sareen and welcomed the birth of their daughter Arinder Sonya. Due to sudden health complications Parvinder Kaur passed away in 1974 when Sonya was 5 years old.
In the 1975, Joginder Singh and Sonya emmigrated to Edmonton from India. Once settled, Joginder Singh wed Sardarni Tripat Kaur Sawhney on May 23, 1979. The births of Navneet Singh and Savleen Tina Kaur shortly followed.
Despite receiving a diagnosis of kidney failure 18 years ago and then undergoing a transplant, he continued to work and run his businesses. His love was the Super flea market where he and his wife Tripat went every weekend to sell and socialize. He closed his market stalls only just 2 weeks ago, as he was determined to keep his passion going.
Joginder Singh was a devout Sikh who spent his life reading and understanding Gurbani. Nanaksar Gurdwara in Edmonton was his second home. It was the place he went to find solace and peace. His mantra in life was « Remember God at all times ». He truly was a student of The Gurbani and he believed in his faith unequivocally. He aspired to live by The Teachings in everything he did.
Joginder Singh was a social butterfly making friends everywhere he went. He was kind and helpful. He loved to cook and feed his friends and family. He was a serious grocery shopper and enjoyed spending the whole day getting food and things for the house.
He was a devoted husband always making sure to take care of his wife. He always had her best interests in mind before anything and anyone else.
The legacy Joginder Singh leaves behind to his wife, children and grandchildren is an epic one. He is the warrior, he is the gentle husband, father and grandfather that his family could always count on. His granddaughters Naomi & Grace & grandsons Saavin Singh and Gabriel will continue to learn about him through stories and pictures shared by family.
Our family wishes to express our sincere gratitude to all those who have supported us during this time of loss.
Following the service, please join us at Nanaksar Gurdwara for a prayer service and Langar (meal) located at 1410 Horsehills Road NW Edmonton.
Please consider making a donation to the Cancer Society and/or Kidney Foundation in honor of Joginder Singh Anand.
