OBITUARY
Joan Marie Fairhead
22 April , 1923 – 13 May , 2018
Joan Marie Fairhead passed away on Mother’s Day May 13, 2018 after a very short illness. She is predeceased by her husband Cyril John Fairhead and a daughter Audry Joan Thiessen. It was appropriate that Joan passed on Mother’s day as she leaves to grieve, two daughters Julie Marie Ballard (Clint), and Louise Charlotte Hambly (Jamie Turner), grandchildren: Aaron Taylor (Sheila), Terumi Taylor, Kimberly Slater (Slavin Kasee) and Kerri Murray (Chris), and son in law Vern Thiessen. Great grandchildren: Austin, Emma, Mia, Cole, Taleb, Raba’a, Haleema, Sabah and Kaytlyn. She also leaves a sister Barbara Fairhead and three nieces, Heather, Alaine and Wendy. Joan was born Joan Marie Logan, on April 22, 1923 in Vernon, BC and died in Kelowna but her journey through life was much longer. At age 5 she learned to swim in Whiterock, BC that began her very active life, swimming, hiking and bowling to name just a few. Joan was an artistic and creative soul. An award winning China Painter, numerous Greenworks, a prolific knitter and an accomplished seam stress. She made each of her daughter’s wedding dresses. Joan married Cyril in 1943 and was a devoted Air Force wife through many station postings throughout Canada and Metz, France. Joan and Cyril settled in Westbank and built their dream home on the Okanagan Lake. Joan had along and active retirement including an extensive stay in Calgary and spent her last days in the care of Brookhaven. Thanks to the staff of Brookhaven and KGH unit 4East for their kind care. A Celebration of Joan’s Life will be held on Friday, May 18, 2018 at 10:00 am in the Chapel of First Memorial Funeral Services, 1211 Sutherland Avenue, Kelowna, BC.
