JERZY (GEORGE) SACIUK

It is with deep sadness that the family announces the passing of our beloved husband, father and dziadek.
Jerzy, known to all as George, is survived by his beloved wife Halina, with whom he celebrated 45 years of marriage on the 23rd of June. He is also survived by his children, Andrew (Angela), Monica Dack (Justin), and grandchildren Emilia, Aleksandra and Natalia, with a fourth grandchild expected to arrive in October; his younger sister Jadwiga Saciuk of Biala Podlaska, Poland and many cousins, nieces, nephews in Canada and overseas.
He is predeceased by his parents Kazimierz and Helena, and older sister Ewa (Piotr) Kaliszuk.
He was born during WWII in Seczyki, Poland (today located in Belarus). He served as a young man in the Polish Armed Forces and came to Canada in 1972 where he met his bride and decided to remain. Jerzy first worked at D. Cohn Trans Canada Tannery, and later at CN Rail, at both Union Station and Transcona Yards, retiring as a material attendant at age 57.
Jerzy was a devoted lifelong beekeeper, carefully tending to all the needs of his beloved colonies. He was active to the last days of his life, enjoying gardening, long bike rides, preparing firewood, and spending time in nature picking mushrooms and blueberries. His three grandchildren were the pride and joy of his life, about whom he would tell all who would listen. He excitedly anticipated Monica and Justin’s unborn child adding to the family.
Many heartfelt thanks for care and support are extended to Dr. R. Asskar, as well as the whole medical team, nurses and support staff at Seven Oaks Hospital, Floor 5, Unit 4.
A funeral mass will be held on Monday, July 23, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at St. John Cantius Roman Catholic Church at 846 Burrows Avenue, followed by interment at Brookside Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Manitoba Wildlife Federation, or any wildlife charity of your choice.
