It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to Gerald Charles Magee. Jerry passed away peacefully at his home on January 1, 2018. He was 66. A lifelong jokester and storyteller, he did everything full-speed ahead. He was a loving and generous force in the lives of his many friends and family members, and was admired by his customers and employees for his kindness, dedication, and relentless work ethic.

Jerry spent an eventful youth growing up with his sisters, Diane and Maureen, in the Keremeos Hotel, which their father owned. As a teenager he built and raced hot rods—the start of an exciting life of many adventures. Known as Sparky to his friends, he trained as a welder and worked as shop foreman at Monashee for seven years before starting his own business, Arctech Machining and Fabricating, at the age of 30. He ran Arctech for the rest of his working life, designing, building, and installing kitchen equipment for hundreds of businesses throughout British Columbia.
He was happily married to Lane Shupe for thirteen years. On October 10, 1992, he married Carol Ann Picken. Together, they raised two children, Cassidy and Shawna. They travelled the world, ran numerous businesses, and drove their motorcycles back and forth across North America. They spent part of every year in Maui, HI, where they built close friendships. Late in life, Jerry learned to sit still long enough to become an avid fisherman. He retired in 2010, 2013, 2015 and 2016.
Jerry is survived by his loving wife Carol Ann; his son Cassidy Picken, his daughter-in-law Haidee Kowal, and grandson Townes Kowal Picken; his daughter Shawna Picken and her partner Chris Kattner; his sisters Diane Moore and Maureen Smith, their husbands Jerry and Chuck, and their families; his uncle Terence Rutherford and his wife Anna; his aunt Lorna Lewis; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
The family would like to thank Dr. Peter Cosmann and Dr. Jasper Stone at the Spall Medical Clinic, and the staff of the Interior Health Heart Function Clinic and the Kelowna Pacemaker Clinic. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kelowna General Hospital, where Jerry was treated many times with great kindness and care.
A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, January 13th at the Kelowna Yacht Club, 1370 Water St. Those who knew Jerry are invited to send photos and memories to friendsofjerrymagee@gmail.com
