It is with sadness that the family of Jean Horn announces her passing on Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at the age of 89. Jean passed away suddenly but peacefully at her home in Kelowna, in the place she loved, overlooking Okanagan Lake. She was predeceased by her husband Jim, her sister Margaret, her sister Maxine and is survived by her brother Lauchlan.
Born and raised in Victoria BC, Jean attended Queen Margaret’s School in Duncan where she was a force on both the tennis court and field hockey pitch. She has many friends from Queens Margaret’s to this day. Always bold and independent, Jean immediately set off for travel and work ranging from Kelowna to Ottawa and eventually even to the Yukon. She returned to Kelowna and married Jim in 1957. They had met many years earlier and remained in touch through dear friends.
Jean worked as a volunteer with the Kelowna General Hospital Auxiliary for over 30 years. She was known throughout the hospital for her kindness, quick sense of humour and her ability to put patients and family members at ease with her gentle manner. Outgoing and extremely quick-witted, she was always interested in telling or listening to a good story and she could always be counted on for a good joke or three. Her hobbies included fishing, tennis and bridge; all pastimes that she enjoyed well into her 80’s. She loved all of her grandchildren and instilled in them a keen love of card playing and puzzles that will endure in her memory.
She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and will be forever remembered with love by her son Blair (Carol), her son Graham (Tracy), her daughter Tanya (Ian) and her grandchildren Sam, Charlie, Harry, Jack, Wildy, Caroline, Jake, Jacqueline and George.
A service will be held at St Andrew’s Anglican Church, 4619 Lakeshore Road, Kelowna at 2:00 pm on Saturday, May 19, 2018, with a reception to follow at the Church Hall.
