Jaxson Stanley Miguel Purcell

Passed away peacefully in his mother’s arms on Saturday March 3, 2018 at the Janeway Neonatal Unit in St. John’s, NL.
Jax was born February 4 at just 24 weeks 4 days gestation due to pregnancy complications. Born just one pound six ounces, he was the strongest and bravest any person could ever be. He was a fighter during his short life. Jax did well for the first three weeks but then he developed NEC, Necrosis Enterocolitis. He underwent a bowel surgery which doctors didn’t think he would pull through, but being the fighter he was, Jax made it through the surgery. After completing his surgery with being such a sick boy, things did not seem to ease up. From there Jaxson developed many issues which led to his passing on March 3. He was held in his mother’s arms being sung sweet lullabies, cuddling, and being told how much he was loved.
Jaxson leaves to mourn his loving parents, his mother Crystal Purcell (St .John’s), his father Rodney Richards (Glenwood), his many brothers and sisters: Brianna, Gracie, Brandon, Jordan, Chanelle, Tyler, Emily and Chase; as well his aunts and uncles: Melissa, Jennifer, Jamie, Neil (Colette), Judy (Sam), Betty (Tony), Bobby and Aunt Dot. Jax was predeceased by his uncle Oral Richards.
He is survived by his loving grandparents Barb and Stan Long and Jerry and Wavy Richards as well as many great aunts, great uncles, cousins, family and many friends.
I would like to take this time to give a special thanks to all the people that helped make Jax’s short stay here on earth a peaceful place. Starting with the NICU, thank you to all Jax’s doctors: Dr. Dishpany, Dr. Downton, Dr. Marika Lewis and Dr. Hodder. To his respiratory therapists, all of the nurses who took such special care of him, to Olive, Wanda and Barb, special hugs are sent your way for helping me during this sent your way for helping me during this tough ordeal. The staff at the Janeway showed my son the greatest medical care as well as wonderful love and devotion. You made his stay at the Neonatal Unit a blessing and for that I’m proud to have met with each one of you and I’m sure Jax will remember everyone of you guys. Special thanks to Kayla White for the special photos I have of.my boy during his last breaths. Your pictures are outstanding and the work you guys do at Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep is incredible.
