Jane passed away peacefully on Friday, November 16, 2018 surrounded by her loving family.
She was the youngest of five children, born to Henrietta and Hugh McPherson on a farm near Hardisty, Alberta. She never knew her father as he passed away eleven days before her birth, however, Jane was dearly loved by her mom and her four older siblings; Finley, Jim, Florence and Glen. Jane moved to Red Deer with her mom and brother Jim when she was 15. She loved dancing and it was at a dance in Red Deer where she met her first husband, Francis Lemay. Jane married Francis in 1953 and they had two daughters, Debbie and Candace, and two sons, Brad and Brent. In 1957 the family moved to Calgary and it was then that Jane met Ann Mauch, who became and remained, her dear friend for the rest of her life. Jane worked at the Forest Heights Safeway for 15 years, where her kind and cheerful disposition made her a customer favorite and well-known personality in the neighborhood. Working full-time, maintaining a house, keeping up with the laundry, and raising four children was exhausting but mom never complained.
She met her second husband, Bob Tucker also at a dance. Bob was an easy going and fun loving Maritimer who also enjoyed music, dancing and the great outdoors. He introduced mom to several new activities including golfing, camping, fishing, curling and snow-free winters in Arizona. Jane was actively involved in St. Michael’s Catholic Community for over thirty years and became increasingly active with the church after Bob passed. Mom’s care and compassion found renewed purpose as she provided care and comfort to others through her pastoral care service, her work with Inn from the Cold, by greeting parishioners before Mass and helping wherever she was needed. It was through her involvement with the church and Agape Hospice that Jane came to know Con Aben, another of her dear friends, and her constant companion over the past fifteen years. Con’s spiritual guidance and support was a great comfort to mom, especially as her health began to fail.
She will be sadly missed by all who loved her especially her four children, Deb (Steve) Curry, Candace (Lloyd) Saar, Brad (Lindy) Lemay, and Brent (Kim) Lemay; her nine grandchildren, Jenica (Gord) Copithorne, Jeremy (Suzie) Lemay, Sean Curry, Christian Vincent, Eric and Nicholas Saar, Evan, Riley and Connor Lemay; and her six great grandchildren, Kaelyn, Karly and Ky McCaulay, Alexandria Copithorne, Brooke and Lanah Lemay.
