BOURKE, James Joseph. Best friend and loving husband to the late Dorothy Bourke, passed away peacefully at Lakeridge Health Oshawa Hospital on February 26th, 2018 in his 92nd year. Dear father to son Michael, daughter Anne (Marcelo) and cherished Grandpa to dear Rebecca, Shawna and Hannah. Predeceased by his parents James and Mary Bourke, brother John (Dorothy) Bourke, sister Patricia (Joe) O’Donnell and sister-in-law Jean (Max) Johnston. Beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews. Owner (business partner George Hamann) and General Manager of the Flying Dutchman Hotel in Bowmanville for over 30 years. Graduate of St. Michael’s College, University of Toronto (B.A.). Faithful Roman Catholic, he was a member of St. Joseph’s Parish in Bowmanville and then St. Joseph the Worker Parish in Oshawa. He enjoyed many travels with his wife Dorothy to many interesting places. An avid gardener he enjoyed spending time at “The Farm”. Loved to play the piano and was as excellent cook. He enjoyed many years as a genealogical enthusiast researching the family history completing “The Emerald in the Crown”. He loved his dog Milo. Always entertaining with his good sense of humour and stories of yore. He will be remembered as a man who loved life, a man of deep character, faith, courage and determination. Always hopeful with a smile to give away and a twinkle in his eye. We would like to thank the fantastic staff at Whitecliff Terrace Retirement Residence making his year stay there a great one. We would also like to thank Dr. Vieira, Dr. Vu and the caring staff on the Supportive floor at Lakeridge Health Oshawa. Cremation has taken place.
