It is with sadness we announce the death of Jim McColeman, beloved uncle of nieces, Allison Akgungor and Lorian Kennedy, and great uncle to their children: Ayla (Geoff Hope); Kent (Josh Bergman) Akgungor; Christine (Rob) McAnally; Anne Dmytryshyn; and grandchildren Maya and Madeleine Hope and Eden McAnally. Jim was predeceased by his wife, Donna in 2007.
A kindly gentleman, he always made a point of getting to know people’s names and loved to exchange good-humoured banter. A prairie boy, he was born in Redcliff, Alberta, grew up in Claybank, Saskatchewan, attended the Southern Alberta Institute of Alberta in Calgary and spent most of his life in Alberta working as a draftsman in the energy industry. Always good at fixing things, he enjoyed hobbies in photography, ham radio and repairing clocks and watches.
In spite of recent failing physical health, his mind remained sharp to the end, keeping up with the details of family activities and world news. His family enjoyed hearing the stories of his 97 years of living which were compiled along with photographs in a book called Jim’s Stories, which his recent caregivers have enjoyed reading.
His family appreciate the compassionate and capable care provided by the staff and physicians at Summerwood Village Retirement Residence, at Fort Saskatchewan Community Hospital and at 9Y Palliative Care in the Edmonton General.
At Jim’s request there will be no service. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
Nos plus sincères sympathies à la famille et aux amis de James ‘Jim’ McColeman August 18 2018..
