Obituary Overview
Forever In Our Hearts
JAMES ALASTAIR THOMAS (Jim)
February 9, 1947 – October 19, 2018
After struggling with multiple serious health conditions for nearly 20 years our valiant “warrior” has gently passed into that good night.
Jim was a kind and gentle soul. He was honest, quiet and loyal. He
believed that actions spoke louder than words. He was extremely fond of
sunrises and sunsets and loved this land of the living skies called
Saskatchewan. Awed by the beauty and mystique of the moon and the stars
he was a true nature lover. Jim considered himself a true prairie boy
who was happiest when he was outside. Jim was our own Dr. Doolittle who
could make friends with any and all creatures of the world.
Jim had an amazing sense of humour and those that knew him well will
attest to this. He could find humor in the simplest of things and
brought us to tears with laughter many many times over the years. We
will miss that so very much.
Jim was brilliant and could create amazing things out of absolutely
nothing. Tools to use in the yard, gadgets to assist with daily living
and anything else that happened to tickle his fancy.
Jim was a wonderful father and grandfather who loved his family
fiercely.
Jim was born in Ochre River, MB on February 9, 1947. He spent his early
childhood on the farm on Peepeekisis Reserve outside of Balcarres, SK
prior to moving to Melville, SK for his high school years in 1960. In
1971 Jim moved to Regina, SK where he lived for the remainder of his
life. He had a successful career as a journeyman sheet metal worker
until he retired due to ill health in 2008.
Jim was predeceased by his father and mother, Peter and Mary Thomas.
His brother Ian Thomas and his sister Emily Thomas Asiniawasis,
brother-in-law James Stonechild, parents-in-law Anna, Gilberte and
Josef Plessl, nephews Mitchell and Tyler Plessl.
Jim is survived by his loving and devoted wife Shirley along with their
loving and devoted family Anna-Marie (Jeremy) Tristan and Charlotte;
Joseph and Raiden; Ashton; Jameson (Shania) and Jessa.
Jim is also survived by his beloved sons Joshua, Matthew, Brennan and
their families.
His nieces Theresa, Dawn, Tracy, Nicole, his nephew Ian and families.
His in-laws Anita & Glen and family; Walter & Bev and family; Gord &
Lori and family; Frank and family; Joanne and family; Chris & Lisa and
family.
Jim is also survived by his aunt Ann Thomas Callahan, his cousin Donald
Thomas, his dear cousin Rossanne Bellegarde and family along with many
friends and cousins too numerous to mention.
The family would like to thank Dr. Ming Fok, the palliative home care
team along with the compassionate care aids for their wonderful care and
attention to Jim. In lieu of flowers or as tokens of remembrance, the
family would appreciate it if donations were directed to the Canadian
Diabetes Association or the Heart and Stroke Fund of Canada.
A memorial service will be held at Regina Funeral Home and Cemetery, 4001 East Victoria Avenue, Regina, SK on Thursday, October 25, 2018 at 10:30 a.m.
We love you and will miss you so very much my dearly beloved. Rest In
Peace Dad.
