Jacob C. Gerlach
Jacob C. Gerlach, age 84 of Swift Current SK, passed away April 9/2018, at Cypress Regional Hospital with his family at his side. The memorial service was held at 2:00 pm April 17, 2018 at the Community Baptist Church with Joel Haugan officiating. The interment service will held at a later date at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Jake is survived by his wife of 60 years Geraldine(Gerry); his children, Dean(Val) Gerlach, Brent Gerlach and Clayton(Tammy) Gerlach; grandchildren Jamie Gerlach and Bill, Jillian (Patrick) Peltier, Darby Gerlach and Jarett Gerlach, sisters, Ruby Miller and Bernice McFadden and sister-in-law Catherine Gerlach. Jake was predeceased by his parents, Christian and Annie Gerlach; brothers Danny, Victor, Albert and Wilfred; brothers-in-law, Lloyd McFadden and Danny Miller; sisters-in-law; Jackie Gerlach and Agnes Gerlach and beloved grandson Austin Gerlach. Jake was born May 23, 1933 in the Beaver Flat area and attended school at Beaver Flat. In 1950 Jake moved to Swift Current where he worked at various jobs. He married Geraldine (Gerry) Hallam on May 18,1957. Jake enjoyed hunting and many sports including baseball where he umpired many games. He was the owner/operator of Star Taxi, drove school bus and was a custodian at Central School for 15 years until he retired. He was an active member of the Community Baptist Church. During his retirement he enjoyed being with family and friends, golfing, organizing functions at the church and always lending a hand to friends and family repairing various household items. Jake’s family was always his top priority. Donations in his memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Saskatchewan, 1738 Quebec Avenue, Unit 26, Saskatoon SK S7K 1V9.
