John Allen Myers, known to family and friends as « Jack, » passed away on December 1st, 2018 at the age of 83 years.
Jack was raised in a tiny, quiet corner of Ontario in the village of Portland where the Myers roots run deep and the homestead still stands. His chosen vocation was education and he taught in Petawawa, Sarnia and Oakville before becoming an English consultant with the Halton and City of Toronto Boards of Education. In his retirement he found new ventures: a paper route, a shuttle service for elderly friends, and volunteering with Friends of the Library and Elgin Lodge. He was a lover of literature, especially writing and reading poetry and prose. His Christmas limericks were always a family favourite.
Jack will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 58 years, Joan; his children, Melanie (John Rickerby), Anne (Cameron Austin), and Allison (Terry Graham); his six grandchildren Ben, Will, Adelaide, Dale, Ross and Phoebe; his sister, Winona (Barker) and his brother Thomas Renso. Jack will also be forever remembered by his nieces, nephew, extended family and dear friends for his keen sense of humour, imagination and non-judgmental nature.
Visitation will be held at Eagleson’s Funeral Home, 234 Palmerston Street, Southampton from 4:30 – 7:30 on Wednesday, December 5, 2018.
A Celebration of Jack ’s life will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, December 6 at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, 248 High Street, Southampton with a luncheon reception to follow.
