J. Brian Bethune
1943-2018
WELL-KNOWN BERWICK
RESIDENT PASSES AWAY
J. Brian Bethune – 74, of Berwick, Kings County,
passed away suddenly on Wednesday, May 30, 2018. Born in Berwick, he
was a son of the late Roderick Owen « Roddie » and
Margaret Christine « Marnie » (Hiltz) Bethune.
Together with his father, he owned and operated John Brian Bethune
Insurance in Berwick. Upon retirement, he sold his insurance business
to the Russell Insurance Group where his name is still prominently
displayed. He was an active supporter of the Berwick community and had
a keen interest in The Kings Mutual Century Centre and the Berwick
Lions Club. Brian was a member of the Berwick and District
Community Association, serving as chair for two years. Also a board
member of Grandview Manor Seniors Foundation. Brian was an avid golfer
and curling enthusiast and had been inducted into the Berwick Sports
Hall of Fame for prominence in both softball and curling. Brian also
was awarded the Diamond Jubilee Medal for his countless hours of
volunteerism in the community by the Governor General of Canada. He is
survived by his wife, Mary Lou (Nixon); three sons, Craig (Heather),
Halifax; Peter (Shannon), Beaver Bank and Jason (Tracy), St. Croix; a
step-daughter, Andrea (Drew) Smyth, North Vancouver; a step-son,
Phillip (Amy) Redden; grandchildren, Matthew, Lauren, Jessica, Brock,
Alex, Brianna, Isaac and Ivy, Eleanor, Gabrielle and Archibald. The
Family would like to acknowledge the special friendship Brian had with
George (Jeanette) Moody, his best friend and coffee partner. He was
predeceased by two brothers, Paul and Donald. Cremation has
taken place. There will be no visitation, by request. A celebration of
Brian’s life will be held on June 14 from 1-3pm in the
Berwick Lions Hall. Donations in memory may be made to The Kings
