Obituary of H.K. Christine Zemlo
HILDA KATHLEEN CHRISTINE ZEMLO, (NEE LEE)
London, England March 31, 1927 – Toronto, Canada December 29, 2017
In loving memory of our mother and nana, Christine Zemlo. A true brit with a stiff upper lip and resilience, she sailed the great blue sea post war to reunite with the love of her life, our father, Octavius Zemlo. They came to Canada in the 1950’s to start a family and create a better life, one for which we will be forever grateful.
Nana was a kind, gentle, loving mother and grandmother who continually gave in many ways to her family, friends and several charitable organizations. She had a fantastic sense of humor and shared her many gifts of love, giggles and laughter.
Her British heritage included looking like Queen Elizabeth II and cooking special dishes that the family enjoyed over the years. She would often put her perfectly barbecued, medium rare steak into the microwave just to make sure it was fully cooked, to the chagrin of her family. She had a quick wit and was a master at playing Scrabble, even into her last month. When challenged, she would resort to her trusty Scrabble dictionary to prove us wrong on many occasions.
Mom was a class act; she knew that life was short. She stayed optimistic and taught her children the power of taking the highroad, being kind and forgiving quickly.
She ran the race well and had a strong faith in the Lord. She is now reunited in glory with our dad Octavius and all the hosts of Heaven. Nana will always be fondly remembered and greatly missed by her two sons John Paul and James, granddaughter Cassandra, daughter Marian, son-in-law John Flannery and her four grandsons Michael, Connor, Jack and Stephen.
The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME A.W. MILES – NEWBIGGING CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue) from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Friday, January 5, 2018. Funeral Mass to be held on Saturday, January 6th in BLESSED SACRAMENT CHURCH at 11:00 a.m. Interment Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers charitable donations in our mom’s memory can be made to St. Vincent De Paul or Covenant House. Condolences, photographs and memories may be forwarded through www.humphreymiles.com.
We will always love you Mom and Nana
Rest in heavenly peace.
