PICTOU LANDING – With heavy hearts we are saddened to announce the passing of Helen “Marguerite” (MacDougall) Hayne, 87, Pictou Landing, who passed away Wednesday, April 18, 2018 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, in the arms of her loving husband.
Going up the river on a tour
I met a girl I never seen before
She was pretty and she was sweet
And her name, Marguerite
Then we kissed and with a smile
I knew we’d be together for a while
70 years has passed and gone
But our love is still as strong
Percy W. Hayne
Born in Trenton, she was a daughter of the late Alexander Francis and Margaret Mary (Lawlor) MacDougall. A devout Roman Catholic, she was a member of Christ the King Roman Catholic Church, Trenton, and after its closure, a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Roman Catholic Church, Pictou Landing First Nations until her passing. Marguerite was the “heart and soul” of her family, whom she cherished. They were her greatest achievement. Marguerite took pride in being a wife, mother and grandmother.
Marguerite is survived by her husband of 70 years, Percy Hayne Sr.; daughter, Anne Louise (John) Vance, New Glasgow; son, Percy Jr. (Mary Gorman) Hayne, Merigomish; son-in-law, Maurice Anderson, Pictou Landing; grandchildren, Tammey (James) Felderhof, Sonya (Scott) Thomsen, John (Sheila) Hayne, Amy (Kevin) Desjardins, Brian Dowding, Brett (Cristal) Anderson, Donnie (Ali) Vance and Connie (Aurel) Camus; 21 great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; sisters, Rita Love, Moncton, N.B.; Florence Hesketh, Hamilton, Ont.; Marie (Rupert) Moores, New Glasgow; sister-in-law, Alice MacDougall, Trenton; many nieces and nephews, and several extended family members.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her daughter, Colleen Mae Dowding; grand-daughter, Katherine “Kit” Vance; sister, Hannah (Edgar) Joyce; brothers, Alister (Joan) and Joe; brothers-in-law, Vernon Love and Ernie Hesketh.
The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday, April 20th in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, April 21st in St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, New Glasgow with Father Vargheese presiding. Interment will be in Christ the King Cemetery, Trenton.
Donations may be made in Marguerite’s memory to the Christ the King Cemetery Fund or Our Lady of Perpetual Help Roman Catholic Church.
