Helen Lisk (1933- 2018)
It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Helen Lisk on October 10th, 2018. Helen was predeceased by the love of her life– her husband Ken (2015) and her sister Betty (2005) (spouse Harry deceased) Helen is survived by her sisters: Jess (spouse Al deceased) Catherine (spouse Norman deceased ) & Barbara (spouse Rudy); Her children: Gary (spouse Debbie), Randy (spouse Elizabeth) and Jo Ann (spouse Ian); Her grandchildren: Andrew, Seana, Cameron, Graeme, Jacob & Daniel; Sister-In-Law Mary (spouse Ronald deceased) and many nieces and nephews and extended family living in Canada and Europe.
Helen Reynolds Scott was born on December 21st, 1933 in Edinburgh, Scotland– the fourth of the five daughters of William and Barbara Scott. It was a humble and happy upbringing. Helen was very proud of her Scottish heritage and knew a great deal of its history.
In 1954, travelling on the Queen Elizabeth ocean liner, Helen immigrated to Canada, where she lived with her sister Jess and Jess’s husband Al in Hamilton, Ontario. Helen began work at the Royal Bank of Canada and met Kenneth Charles Lisk. As co-workers due to bank restrictions they had to date secretly, but later they would work in different branches and were married in 1957. There was a transient aspect to the banking profession at that time so in the early years of their marriage they worked and raised their family in different parts of Ontario. Gary was born in Owen Sound, Randy in Ingersoll and Jo Ann in Chatham.
Helen will be remembered as a caring person with an amazing memory for people and events both historical but especially personal. Her ability to remember birthdays and anniversaries was a source of amazement for family and friends. It would be impossible to count the number of knitted/crocheted/needlepoint items she made over the years, generously giving them to family, friends, acquaintances and near strangers alike. Helen had a real gift for interior decorating. In her later years, Helen became a crossword aficionado and was a formidable opponent in the game of Scrabble.
In October of 2015, Helen suffered a stroke which severely impaired her speech and ability to write. No one in her family will forget the courage Helen showed in the last years of her life, living alone for the first time, she never gave up trying to communicate and connect with people. Her family received many compliments and condolences from the workers at her assisted living residence.
Helen will be missed by all that knew her.
