OBITUARY
Hartwig Friedrich Berndl
28 October , 1932 – 1 June , 2018
Vic was born in Vienna, Austria on October 28, 1932 and passed away on Friday, June 1, 2018, at the Glacier View Lodge, in Courtenay, BC.
Vic was predeceased by his daughter, Barbara in April, 1985. He is survived by his wife of almost 60 years Lois, his children Arlene, Sharon (Jeff) and Stephen, and his granddaughters Sarah, Jordan, Gabriela, Tayler and Erin. He also leaves behind family in Vienna, Austria, Johannesburg, South Africa and a large extended family here in British Columbia
He moved with his family to Courtenay in the summer of 1967 to teach at the newly opened GP Vanier Senior Secondary, where he remained until his retirement in 1992. For many years, he was an active coach for the Chimo Gymnastics Club at the C.R.A., volunteered as an instructor for the Air Cadets and was also a member of the Comox Valley Ham Radio Club. For his years of volunteering and work within the community, the City of Courtenay named him one of the “100 Citizens of the Century” in 2015. Vic was also a trained carpenter which skills he, along with his brother-in-law Jim, used to construct several summer cabins up on Christina Lake in the Kootenays and then on Horne Lake.
A memorial service will be held at St. Georges Church on Tuesday, June 12, 2018, at 2:00 pm
