OBITUARY
Grant Spencer Pinkham
13 May , 1987 – 25 March , 2018
On Sunday March 25th, 2018 my son Grant Pinkham passed away. He was only 30 years of age and he was my World, my beloved and my Mother’s Day Gift. He was raised a Burnaby boy and because I had to go to work within three months of Grant’s birth finding the right day care was critical for me. I found Santina when I was 8.5 months pregnant and fell in love with her immediately. I remember her saying I won’t teach your child how to read and write but I will teach him how to love one another, and boy…did she ever do that.

Grant was a Burnaby boy starting out at Cliff United Pre-school, then Monticeto and finally Burnaby North Senior Secondary School. He really enjoyed history, social studies and soccer. He was the kind of person that always looked out for the underdog and although his friends were few he was loyal to the core, a true Taurus! He was accepted into a program developed by the Bentall family with Linda Bentall, at the core during his 11th year at Burnaby North. This program was designed for children who might have otherwise fallen through the cracks, and with the support of the Cirque Du Soleil and other amazing teachers, Grant thrived. He excelled at juggling and trapeze…fearless! He was a “gentle ben”, quiet and the epitome of “still waters”.
Grant loved his father Don, and especially loved his little girl cousins in Australia, Shakora, Nalani and Keone. Grant had a smile that would melt an iceberg. I remember that his cousin Keshana was looking after an autistic child who was a handful to say the least and Grant and I were off to meet them at the park in Deep Cove. The second that little boy saw Grant for the first time he ran into his arms with so much force that Grant, (who was a big boy), almost fell over, but then picked him up and cuddled him. They played and had a wonderful time together. It is always the children and animals who see the soul of a human being for what it is.
Grant was a man of very few spoken words…I would often say I think Grant believes he has a word budget of 3500 words per year and maybe that is why he starts talking around Christmas.
He had struggles with life but being the Taurus he was would not take any help or handouts. However, the last five years he was working for a firm that highly represented him and where felt he had a purpose. He had just completed his St. John’s Ambulance training on Friday, March 24, 2018, and he would have been amazing because he truly felt peoples pain and wanted to help.
Grant will now be with his Grandfather who passed at the age of 94, four years ago. Grant adored his Grandpa and Grandma. When I told Grant that Mom was forgetting to take her pills he made a point of calling her everyday to gently remind her.
We have gifts forever and sometime just for a little while. Mine was for a little while. I loved Grant dearly and will miss him everyday.
