Grace Skope (Strano)
Grace passed away peacefully at her home on October 7, 2018, after a lengthy and courageous battle. She was surrounded by her loving family and is now reunited with her beloved husband William (1985). Grace was the loving and incredibly devoted mother of Anna Lucier (Kevin) and Peter Skope (Terri). Precious Nonna of Jordan and Connor Lucier, Hanna and William Skope. She was predeceased by her parents Vito and Agata Strano, and sisters Sarina Strano and Maria Matera. Grace is survived by her loving brother Mario Strano (Rosa) and she is the beloved aunt to numerous nieces and nephews.
Grace enjoyed her retirement years after an extraordinary, lifelong career of service. Upon immigrating to Canada, she first worked a number of odd jobs. This was followed by 25 years of dedicated service at Pyramid Mobile Homes. Her career concluded with 16 years of service at General Motors where she was a skilled seamstress. Grace’s work family undoubtedly became her extended family. In fact, her phone rang multiple times a day with her “extended family” lovingly checking in.
Grace will always be remembered for the unconditional love, hospitality, cooking and baking for which she was renowned. She enjoyed gathering around her table with family and friends and there was always an open door at the Skope residence. In addition, Grace loved the outdoors and could be found gardening and riding around her beautiful yard on her newest set of wheels–her golf cart. It gave her tremendous pleasure to ride to her garden with her grandchildren to gather the daily harvest. In fact, this past summer, she continued to can tomato sauce, pickles and beets, which are all second to none. Finally, her greatest joy in life was to spend quality time with her four grandchildren-Jordan, Connor, Hanna and William.
Grace’s family would like to extend very special thanks to lifelong friends, Joyce and Fernando Mazzoni, and niece and nephew, Sara and Tom Larocque, for years of unconditional love and support through her illness.
Finally, Grace was compassionately attended to by a myriad of health care professionals including Dr. Hamm and staff at the Windsor Regional Cancer Center, Filomena Rowley, Nurse Practitioner, Nada Horvat & staff at LINH, St. Elizabeth, VON staff (especially Sara Kwapisz), Hospice, and devoted family doctor, Dr. Bill Piganelli. Tremendous thanks to all for the extraordinary love, care and support.
